Teddy Pierre-Marie Riner is a French judoka. He has won eleven World Championships gold medals, the first and only judoka to do so, and three Olympic gold medals. He has also won five gold medals at the European Championships. He was a member of the Levallois Sporting Club before joining Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017.

Albania first participated at the Summer Olympic Games in 1972. They missed the next four games, three of them for political reasons due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott, 1984 Summer Olympics boycott and 1988 boycotts, but returned for the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympics. They have appeared in all games since then. They made their Winter Olympic Games debut in 2006. Albania normally competes in events that include swimming, athletics, weightlifting, shooting, and wrestling. The country has not yet won an Olympic medal. Along with Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta and Monaco, Albania is one of five current European participants that have never won an Olympic medal. They have been represented by the Albanian National Olympic Committee since 1972.
Kosovo made its Olympic debut as a member state in 2016. Its team is organized by the Olympic Committee of Kosovo (OCK), created in 1992 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee on 9 December 2014. It won its first medal in its debut appearance in 2016, when judoka Majlinda Kelmendi took gold in the women's -52 kg category. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nora Gjakova won gold in the women's judo -57 kg class, and Distria Krasniqi won gold in the women's judo -48 kg class.
Rishod Sobirov is an Uzbek judoka. He won the bronze medal in the Men's 60 kg at the 2008 Summer Olympics and two World Judo Championships in 2010 and 2011, making him the current number one in the International Judo Federation ranking of Men's 60.
Emmanuel "Emma" Lucenti is a judoka from Argentina. He competed at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's half-middleweight (-81 kg). At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he lost in second round to Euan Burton. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to Kim Jae-bum. As Kim continued on to the gold medal match, Lucenti took part in the bronze medal repechage, where he lost in the first round to Antoine Valois-Fortier. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Lucenti was once again eliminated by Valois-Fortier, this time in the third round.
Felipe Kitadai is a judoka from Brazil. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and a gold at the 2011 Pan American Games. He also won gold medals six consecutive times in the Pan American Games Judo Championships: at 2011 Guadalaraja, 2012 Montreal, 2013 San José, 2014 Guayaquil, 2015 Edmonton and 2016 Havana.
Davaadorjiin Tömörkhüleg is a Mongolian judoka who competes in the men's -66 kg category.
Ludovic Chammartin is a Swiss judoka who competes in the men's 60 kg category. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was defeated in the second round. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he was eliminated in the third round by Diyorbek Urozboev.
Bekir Özlü is an Olympian Georgian-born Turkish judoka competing in the 60 kg division. The 1.62 m tall sportsman is a member of Kocaeli BB Kağıt SK. Bekir Ozlu née Betkil Shukvani was born in Georgia but changed to Turkey in 2015. For Georgia he won European medals U17 and U20 and silver at the Senior European in 2011 in Istanbul. He won the European team title with Georgia in 2007. He won World Cups since 2011 and the Grand Slam of Rio in 2012. Ozlu won gold at the European Open in Minsk in 2017. He captured a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2017. Ozlu took gold at the Grand Prix The Hague in 2017.
Yann Siccardi is a Monégasque Olympic judoka who competes in the Men's 60 kg category. He competed in the 2008 and the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he lost in the first round to Craig Fallon of Great Britain. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was defeated in the third round by Russian Arsen Galstyan. Siccardi won a gold medal in the 60 kg and under category at the 2011 Games of the Small States of Europe. Siccardi qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics and is the Monégasque flag bearer.
Andreea Ștefania Chițu is a Romanian judoka who competes in the women's –52 kg category. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she was defeated in the second round by Ilse Heylen, having beaten Soraya Haddad in the first round. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she beat Laura Gómez in her first match, before losing to Odette Giuffrida in the quarter-finals. Because Giuffrida reached the final, Chițu entered the repechage. She was eliminated in the repechage by Érika Miranda.

The Austrian Olympic Committee confirmed a squad of 71 athletes, 37 men and 34 women, to compete across 22 sports at the Games. The nation's full roster had one more participant than the previous two Games.

Nauru competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. The country's participation in Brazil was its sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Nauru's delegation included two participants: Ovini Uera, a judoka in the men's middleweight judo category; and Elson Brechtefeld in the men's 56 kg weightlifting competition. Uera qualified as Nauru's top-ranked judoka, in the IJF World Ranking List through a quota slot from the Oceania Judo Union. Brechtefeld qualified by grant from the International Weightlifting Federation of an unused quota place. Uera was eliminated by Varlam Liparteliani in the round of 16 and Brechtefeld finished 15th in his event.
Afghanistan competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. The country's participation at Rio de Janeiro marked its fourth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics and fourteenth in total. Afghanistan had officially made its debut in 1936 and missed five editions since then. Rohullah Nikpai, who had previously won a medal for Afghanistan in taekwondo, did not participate. Afghanistan failed to earn a single Olympic medal in Rio for the first time since 2004.

Francisco Garrigos Rosa is a Spanish judoka. He won the gold medal in the men's 60 kg event at the 2023 World Judo Championships held in Doha, Qatar. In 2016, he competed at the Summer Olympics in the men's 60 kg event, in which he was eliminated in the second round by Tobias Englmaier.
Sebastian Seidl is a German judoka. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 66 kg event, in which he was eliminated in the second round by Fabio Basile. He also competed in the men's 66 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Igor Wandtke is a German judoka. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 73 kg event, in which he was eliminated in the third round by Sagi Muki.
