Tobol (Russian : Тобол, Kazakh : ТобылTobyl) is a river and the main tributary of the Irtysh. Its length is 1,660 km (1,030 mi), and the area of its drainage basin is 395,000 km2 (153,000 sq mi).
The Tobol River was one of the four important rivers of the Siberia Khanate. In 1428 the khan was killed in a battle with the forces of Abu'l-Khayr Khan at the Battle of Tobol. [1]
In the 16th century, the Tobol was the eastern terminus of the portage route leading westward to the Vishera and Kama Rivers.

Semey, until 2007 known as Semipalatinsk and in 1917–1920 as Alash-kala, is a city in Kazakhstan, in East Kazakhstan Region, and in the Kazakhstan part of Siberia. It lies along the Irtysh River and is near the border with Russia, around 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) north of Almaty, and 700 kilometers (430 mi) southeast of the Russian city of Omsk. Its population is 299,264.
Tyumen Oblast is a federal subject of Russia. It is geographically located in the Western Siberia region of Siberia, and is administratively part of the Urals Federal District. The oblast has administrative jurisdiction over two autonomous okrugs: Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Tyumen Oblast including its autonomous okrugs is the third-largest federal subject by area, and has a population of 3,395,755 (2010)
The West Siberian Plain, also known as Zapadno-sibirskaya Ravnina, is a large plain that occupies the western portion of Siberia, between the Ural Mountains in the west and the Yenisei River in the east, and by the Altay Mountains on the southeast. Much of the plain is poorly drained and consists of some of the world's largest swamps and floodplains. Important cities include Omsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Chelyabinsk.

The Odinov culture is the beginning of the Bronze Age archeological culture of foot hunters named after the settlement Odino in the basin of lower Ishim river in Western Siberia. The culture is dated to the 18th to 16th centuries BCE, but may be older. The Odinov culture is an island surrounded by forest-steppe type cultural array. Its settlements are situated along the terraces of the rivers and creeks. Insufficiently known dwellings appear to be dug-outs. It is thought that Odinov culture rose from Eneolithic forest- steppe cultures in the Ishim area.
