Todakohama Station was opened as a terminal station of the Japan Government Railways San'in Main Line when the line was extended extended from Masuda Station on 8 March 1925. It was originally named Iwami-Kohama Station (見小浜駅), but the name was changed to Todakohama Station on 1 November of the same year. The line was further extended to Susa Station on 19 June 1927. Freight operations were discontinued on 1 February 1963. With the privatization of the Japan National Railway (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the aegis of the West Japan railway Company (JR West). The station was out of operation from 28 July 2013 to 9 November 2013 due to damage to the line caused by torrential rains.
In fiscal 2020, the station was used by an average of 9 passengers daily. [2]
