Toghrul Shahriyar oghlu Asgarov (Azerbaijani : Toğrul Əsgərov; born on September 17, 1992, Ganja, Azerbaijan) is an Azerbaijani wrestler. He is an Olympic and European champion in freestyle wrestling.

In 2012 Summer Olympics Toghrul Asgarov won Olympic wrestling gold medal in men's 60-kilogram freestyle, beating Besik Kudukhov of Russia by a score of (1-0, 5-0). [1] [2] [3]

In May 2017, he was disqualified for one year due to the doping rules violation (higenamine). [4]

Azerbaijan competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fifth consecutive appearance at the Olympics in the post-Soviet era. The National Olympic Committee of the Azerbaijani Republic sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games. A total of 53 athletes, 39 men and 14 women, competed in 15 sports. There was only a single competitor in road cycling, equestrian show jumping, fencing, and shooting. The Azerbaijani athletes also included their only defending champion, judoka Elnur Mammadli, who became the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony.

In 2016, Molinaro won the US Olympic Team Trials, earning the ability to qualify and represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics at 65 kg. Elman Asgarov is a retired amateur Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler, who competed in the men's welterweight category. He captured a silver medal in the same division at the 2002 European Wrestling Championships in his hometown Baku, and later represented his nation Azerbaijan at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout his sporting career, Asgarov has been training under his personal coach and mentor Yakub Mamedov for SKA Neftçi.

He is coached by Anatoly Margiyev and his uncle, Stanislav Ramonov. His elder brother Alan and cousin Hamlet are also competitive wrestlers. In the final match of the Alexander Medved International tournament he beat the current World Champion Frank Chamizo of Italy. Takuto Otoguro is a Japanese freestyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Otoguro claimed the gold medal after beating the likes of defending World Champion Gadzhimurad Rashidov and three-time World Champion Haji Aliyev. A Cadet World Champion, Otoguro first broke into the senior scene when he went undefeated (16–0) in 2018, claiming the World Championship and the National Championship at age 19. He then went on to become a two–time Asian Continental Champion.
