Nowa Ruda is a town in south-western Poland near the Czech border, lying on the Włodzica river in the central Sudetes mountain range. As of 2007 it has 25,240 inhabitants. The town is located in Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is the seat of the rural district of Gmina Nowa Ruda, but is not part of its territory.
The Man Booker International Prize is an international literary award hosted in the United Kingdom. The introduction of the International Prize to complement the Man Booker Prize was announced in June 2004. Sponsored by the Man Group, from 2005 until 2015 the award was given every two years to a living author of any nationality for a body of work published in English or generally available in English translation. It rewarded one author's "continued creativity, development and overall contribution to fiction on the world stage", and was a recognition of the writer's body of work rather than any one title. The judges for the year compiled their own lists of authors, and submissions were not invited.
The Nike Literary Award is one of the most prestigious awards for Polish literature. Established in 1997 and funded by Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland's second largest daily paper, and the consulting company NICOM, it is conferred annually in October for the best book of a single living author writing in Polish published the previous year. It is open for nominees from all literary genres, including non-fiction essays and autobiographies. Each year, a nine-member jury selects the laureate in a three-stage process. Twenty official nominees are accepted in May, out of which seven finalists are declared in September. The final decision does not take place until the day of the award ceremony in October. The award consists of a statuette designed by the prominent Polish sculptor Kazimierz Gustaw Zemła and a cash prize of currently PLN 100,000.
Olga Tokarczuk is a Polish writer, activist, and public intellectual who has been described as one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful authors of her generation. In 2018, she won the Man Booker International Prize for her novel Flights, becoming the first Polish writer to do so.
Porozumienie Centrum was a Polish Christian democratic political party. The party rose in 1990. Its chairman was Jarosław Kaczyński. In its programme, the PC opposed socialism and was anti-communist. In 1997 PC joined the Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS) movement, but in 2001 Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński created a new party, called Law and Justice as the successor of the PC. A group of former PC members is being called a (religious) order.
Sulechów is a town located within the Zielona Góra County, in Lubusz Voivodeship, western Poland. It is the administrative seat of the Gmina Sulechów. Established in the Middle Ages, the town features many historical monuments significant to the Polish Lubusz region.

The Kościelski Award is an independent Polish literary award, awarded since 1962 by the Geneva-based Kościelski Foundation. The jury issues annual awards to "promising writers" 40 years of age or younger. Past winners have included Sławomir Mrożek, Zbigniew Herbert, Bolesław Taborski, Adam Zagajewski, Wojciech Karpiński, Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz, Stefan Chwin, Jerzy Pilch, Paweł Huelle, Andrzej Stasiuk, Olga Tokarczuk, Tomasz Różycki, Jacek Dehnel, Jolanta Stefko, Mikołaj Łoziński and most recently Jacek Dukaj. It is the oldest independent award in Polish literature.
Wydawnictwo Literackie is a Kraków-based Polish publishing house. Since its foundation in 1953, Wydawnictwo Literackie has been focused on publishing modern prose and poetry by both renown and emerging authors, both Polish and foreign. In recent years it is primarily associated with editions of Polish language classics of the 20th century and of modern science-fiction novels. In recent years the publishing house also expanded into the market of textbooks for humanities, lexicons and dictionaries.

Spoor is a 2017 Polish crime film directed by Agnieszka Holland. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. At Berlin, the film won the Alfred Bauer Prize. It was selected as the Polish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
The Brückepreis is an international prize given annually to a person who contributed by a life's work to better understanding between peoples in Europe. It is given annually, beginning in 1993, by the town of Görlitz/Zgorzelec. The Europastadt lies in both Germany and Poland, connected by a bridge across the Neisse, and not far from the Czech Republic. The bridge appears in the prize name also for building bridges among people and nations, as Norbert Lammert, the president of the Bundestag, expressed in his laudatio for Arvo Pärt in 2007. The official name is Internationaler Brückepreis der Europastadt Görlitz/Zgorzelec. The prize money is 2,500 Euro. The prize is managed by an association, Gesellschaft zur Verleihung des Internationalen Brückepreises der Europastadt Görlitz/Zgorzelec.

Jennifer Croft is an American author, critic and translator who works from Polish, Ukrainian and Argentine Spanish. With the author Olga Tokarczuk, she was awarded the 2018 Man Booker International Prize for her translation of Flights.
Piotr Cugowski is a Polish musician, vocalist of the Bracia Group, which he founded together with his brother Wojciech. He comes from a musical family, being the son of Krzysztof Cugowski, who is the founder of a well known Polish 1970's rock band Budka Suflera. Piotr Cugowski is a member of the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry.
