Tokugawa Fūunroku Hachidai Shōgun Yoshimune (徳川風雲録 八代将軍吉宗) is a television program broadcast on January 2, 2008, on the TV Tokyo network in Japan. It was the 28th in the annual Shinshun Wide Jidaigeki series. Ten hours long, it began at 2:00 p.m. and ran until midnight.
The production stars Masatoshi Nakamura as Tokugawa Yoshimune, eighth Tokugawa shogun. Asahi Uchida portrays Ten'ichi-bō, a youth portrayed as a son of the young Yoshimune. Ken Ishiguro is Ōoka Tadasuke.
Yoshimune's mother, Oyuri, is Rino Katase. Sakurai Sachiko, Misato Tanaka, Yoko Minamino, Miki Sakai, Tomoka Kurotani (as Ejima), Yumiko Takahashi, Waka Inoue, Sachiko Kokubu, and Mari Hoshino appear.
Veteran actor Hiroki Matsukata plays Tokugawa Mitsusada, Yoshimune's father. Mito Mitsukuni, who supported Yoshimune's bid to become shogun, is portrayed by Makoto Fujita. Teruhiko Saigō portrays Ōishi Kuranosuke, leader of the Forty-seven Ronin, and Toshiyuki Nishida (whose major roles include Yoshimune in the NHK Taiga drama based on his life) takes the role of Kinokuniya Bunzaemon. Another veteran Yoshimune, Ken Matsudaira (for 25 years the star of Abarenbō Shōgun ), appears as Tsuchiya Mondonosuke.
The program is based on the two-volume historical novel Yoshimune to Ten'ichi-bō by Renzaburō Shibata, the author who wrote the Sleepy Eyes of Death (Nemuri Kyōshirō) series and Gokenin Zankurō . Shunka Nagasaka ( Kamen Rider X, Japan Sinks, Ultraman Zearth ) wrote the script. Ichikura Haruo and Kōjirō Fujioka are the directors. The show is a joint production of TV Tokyo and Toei.

The Unfettered Shogun (暴れん坊将軍) is a Japanese television program on the TV Asahi network. Set in the eighteenth century, it showed fictitious events in the life of Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa shōgun.
Jidaigeki is a genre of film, television, video game, and theatre in Japan. Literally meaning "period dramas", they are most often set during the Edo period of Japanese history, from 1603 to 1868. Some, however, are set much earlier—Portrait of Hell, for example, is set during the late Heian period—and the early Meiji era is also a popular setting. Jidaigeki show the lives of the samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants of their time. Jidaigeki films are sometimes referred to as chambara movies, a word meaning "sword fight", though chambara is more accurately a subgenre of jidaigeki. Jidaigeki rely on an established set of dramatic conventions including the use of makeup, language, catchphrases, and plotlines.
Ken Matsudaira is a Japanese actor and musician from Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan. His real name is Sueshichi Suzuki.
Ōoka Tadasuke was a Japanese samurai in the service of the Tokugawa shogunate. During the reign of Tokugawa Yoshimune, as a magistrate (machi-bugyō) of Edo, his roles included chief of police, judge and jury, and Yamada Magistrate prior to his tenure as South Magistrate of Edo. With the title Echizen no Kami, he is often known as Ōoka Echizen (大岡越前). He was highly respected as an incorruptible judge. In addition, he established the first fire brigade made up of commoners, and the Koishikawa Yojosho. Later, he advanced to the position of jisha bugyō, and subsequently became daimyō of the Nishi-Ōhira Domain.
Kōju Meguro, better known by his stage name Hiroki Matsukata, was a Japanese actor. He was the son of jidaigeki actor Jūshirō Konoe and actress Yaeko Mizukawa and has a younger brother, Yūki Meguro, who is also an actor. With ex-wife actress Akiko Nishina he had two children; son Masaki Nishina and daughter Hitomi Nishina are both in the entertainment industry.
Yorozuya Kinnosuke (萬屋錦之介) was a Japanese kabuki actor. Born Kin'ichi Ogawa, son of kabuki actor Nakamura Tokizō III, he entered kabuki and became the first in the kabuki tradition to take the name Nakamura Kinnosuke. He took on his guild name (yagō) Yorozuya as his surname in 1971.
Tenkai was a Japanese Tendai Buddhist monk of the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. He achieved the rank of Daisōjō, the highest rank of the priesthood. His Buddhist name was first Zuifū (随風), which he changed to Tenkai in 1590. Also known as Nankōbō Tenkai, he died on 13 November 1643, and was granted the posthumous title of Jigen Daishi (慈眼大師) in 1648.
Matsudaira Sadaaki was a Japanese daimyō of the Bakumatsu period, who was the last ruler of the Kuwana Domain. Sadaaki was the adopted heir of Matsudaira Sadamichi, the descendant of Sadatsuna, the third son of Hisamatsu Sadakatsu (1569–1623), who was Tokugawa Ieyasu's brother. His family was known as the Hisamatsu Matsudaira clan. It was to this family that Matsudaira Sadanobu also belonged.
Makoto Fujita, born Makoto Harada, was a Japanese actor. He was born in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, the son of silent-film actor Rintarō Fujima, and started his career as a comedian in 1952.

Shōgun no Onmitsu! Kage Jūhachi (将軍の隠密!影十八) is a television jidaigeki series. It ran in prime time on the TV Asahi network in Japan. The first episode aired on January 27, 1996, and the 19th and final installment was broadcast on June 29 of that year. The series starred Kunihiko Mitamura with Yoko Minamino, Yūji Kishimoto, and Bengal as the team of secret agents working under the leadership of Kōtarō Satomi. Kyōko Tsujisawa also appeared regularly.
Ken Nishida is a Japanese actor and voice actor. He is noted for his roles in Return of Ultraman, Eyeful Daisakusen, Uchuu Keiji Gavan, Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger, G-Men '75, and Shin Kyoto Meikyū Annai. His guest roles have included multiple episodes of Key Hunter, Mito Kōmon, Taiyō ni Hoero!, Zenigata Heiji, and Abarenbō Shōgun. He is also a regular guest star in the two-hour prime-time special drama format, with 35 appearances on the Tuesday Kayō Suspense Gekijō and 25 on the Saturday Doyō Wide Gekijō. A veteran jidaigeki actor, Nishida portrayed the recurring villain Mugensai who masterminded the plot to assassinate the shogun in the series Shogun Iemitsu Shinobi Tabi Part II. He appeared as Asano Daigaku, younger brother of the daimyō whose forced seppuku triggered the events of the Forty-seven rōnin, in The Fall of Ako Castle. A modern role was in the 1986 Kei Kumai film adaptation Umi to Doku of the Shūsaku Endō novel of the same name. Three films in the Gokudō no Onna-tachi series of gangster films are also to his credit. In anime, Ken provided the Japanese voice of Kazundo Gouda in Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG.

The film was released on August 6, 2011, alongside the film for Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship.

Kawaite sōrō (乾いて候) is a Japanese jidaigeki or period drama that was broadcast in prime-time in 1984. Also known as A Samurai's sorrow. It is based on Goseki Kojima and Kazuo Koike 's manga of the same title. The lead star is Masakazu Tamura.Masakazu Tamura's elder brother Takahiro Tamura and younger brother Ryo Tamura also appeared. Also, three special editions of the drama were produced. In addition, Masakazu Tamura played the role on the stage.
