Toledo Island (Bulgarian : остров Толедо, romanized: ostrov Toledo, IPA:  [ˈɔstrof toˈlɛdo] ) is the southern of two rocky islands in Smyadovo Cove on the west coast of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands. The feature is 320 m (1,050 ft) long in east–west direction and 110 m (360 ft) wide. It is separated from Rugged Island to the southeast and Prosechen Island to the north by 40 and 60 m (130 and 200 ft) wide passages respectively. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

The island is named after Joaquín de Toledo y Parra (1780–1819), Captain of the Spanish warship San Telmo that sank with 644 men on board off the north coast of Livingston Island in September 1819.

Location

Toledo Island is located at 62°37′29″S61°18′04″W / 62.62472°S 61.30111°W / -62.62472; -61.30111 , which is 1.23 km (0.76 mi) south of Cape Sheffield and 300 m (980 ft) north by west of Ugain Point. Spanish mapping in 1992 and Bulgarian mapping in 2009.

Burgas Peninsula

Burgas Peninsula is a predominantly ice-covered peninsula forming the east extremity of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 10 km in the east-northeast direction towards Renier Point and 4.7 km wide. It is bounded by Bruix Cove, Moon Bay and Mugla Passage to the north, and Bransfield Strait to the south-southeast. The peninsula's interior is occupied by the Delchev Ridge of Tangra Mountains.

Svishtov Cove

Svishtov Cove is a 2.19 km wide cove indenting for 1.48 km the northwest extremity of Ray Promontory on Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. it is entered southwest of Essex Point and northeast of Start Point.

Desolation Island (South Shetland Islands)

Desolation Island is one of the minor islands in the South Shetlands archipelago, Antarctica situated at the entrance to Hero Bay, Livingston Island. The island is V-shaped with its northern coast indented by Kozma Cove. Surface area 3.12 square kilometres (1.20 sq mi).

Cape Sheffield

Cape Sheffield is a cape forming the northwest extremity of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It was named for Captain James P. Sheffield, Master of the brig Hersilia of Stonington, Connecticut, in 1819–20 and 1820–21, the first American sealer known to have visited the South Shetland Islands. In 1819–20 he took 8,868 sealskins from headquarters at Rugged Island.

Kokalyane Point is the point on the west coast of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica forming the south side of the entrance to Bogomil Cove. Situated 810 m north-northwest of Benson Point, 970 m south of Ugain Point and 2.51 km south of Cape Sheffield.

Ugain Point

Ugain Point is the point on the west coast of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica separating Smyadovo Cove to the north and Bogomil Cove to the south. Situated 1.76 km north-northwest of Benson Point, 970 m north of Kokalyane Point and 1.55 km south of Cape Sheffield.

Bogomil Cove

Bogomil Cove is a 970 m wide cove indenting for 770 m the west coast of Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is entered north of Kokalyane Point and south of Ugain Point.

Smyadovo Cove

Smyadovo Cove is a 900-meter wide cove indenting for 850 m the west coast of Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Entered north of Ugain Point and south of the southwest extremity of the small peninsula forming Cape Sheffield. Part of the cove's interior and entrance is occupied by Toledo Island and Prosechen Island.

Bakshev Ridge

Bakshev Ridge is a rugged rocky ridge on Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 700 m in southeast-northwest direction, with a highest point of elevation 239 m situated 660 m east of San Stefano Peak, 1.25 km west of Vund Point, and 1.1 km northwest of Radev Point.

San Stefano Peak

San Stefano Peak is a rocky peak rising to 256 m, the summit of Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Situated in the central part of the island, 3.48 km northeast of Benson Point, 4.17 km southeast of Cape Sheffield, 830 m south of Cherven Peak, 1.91 km west of Vund Point, and 1.58 km northwest of Radev Point.

Herring Point

Herring Point is a point on the north coast of Rugged Island off the west coast of Byers Peninsula of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica forming the east side of the entrance to Hersilia Cove.

Vardim Rocks

Vardim Rocks are a group of rocks situated on the south side of Hell Gates, facing Devils Point in the southwest extremity of Byers Peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Extending 1.3 km (0.81 mi) in east-west direction. The two principal islets in the group, Demon and Sprite, are extending 420 by 400 m and 270 by 150 m respectively, with surface area of the former 9 hectares. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Pindarev Island is the 250 m long in southeast-northwest direction and 115 m wide flat rocky island in Nishava Cove separated from the north coast of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands by a 35 m wide passage. Its surface area is 1.9 ha. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Kianida Reef Antarctic reef

Kianida Reef is the 350 m long in east-west direction and 140 m wide, narrowing to the east rocky reef lying in Osogovo Bay, off the southeast extremity of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands. Its surface area is 4 ha. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.
