Tom Costello is an Irish Labour Party politician. He was Mayor of Galway from 2007 to 2008.
A native of Castlegar, Costello became involved in politics in 1992 while working with Bus Éireann, becoming involved in trade unions and decided to become a councillor to be a reliable representative for the people of Galway and to try to bring about change.[ citation needed ]

Claddagh is an area close to the centre of Galway city, where the River Corrib meets Galway Bay. It was formerly a fishing village, just outside the old city walls. It is just across the river from the Spanish Arch, which was the location of regular fish markets where the locals supplied the city with seafood as recently as the end of the 19th century.
