Tom Docherty (15 April 1924 – 28 December 2020) was an English professional footballer. A winger, he joined Newport County in 1955 from Reading and went on to make 108 appearances for Newport, scoring one goal. In 1958 he joined King's Lynn. [1] He died in December 2020 at the age of 96. [2] [3]
Thomas Henderson Docherty, commonly known as The Doc, was a Scottish football player and manager. Docherty played for several clubs, most notably Preston North End, and represented Scotland 25 times between 1951 and 1959. He then managed a total of 13 clubs between 1961 and 1988, as well as the Scotland national team. Docherty was manager of Manchester United between 1972 and 1977, during which time they were relegated to the Second Division, but promoted back to the First Division as champions at the first attempt.

The 2019–20 season was suspended on 13 March 2019 due to the Coronavirus pandemic with Newport 15th in League Two. The League Two season was formally terminated on 9 June 2020 with Newport having ten league matches unplayed. Points per game was subsequently adopted to determine the final League Two table with Newport County rising one place to 14th in the league.
The 2020–21 Newport County A.F.C. season was the club's eight consecutive season in the EFL League Two. It was Newport's 68th season in the Football League and 100th season of league football overall. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom fans were not permitted to attend matches until the League 2 Playoff semi-finals and final.
