Poquoson,informally known as Bull Island,is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia,United States. As of the 2020 census,the population was 12,460. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Poquoson with surrounding York County for statistical purposes.
The 1876 South Carolina gubernatorial election was held on November 7,1876,to select the governor of the state of South Carolina. The election campaign was a referendum on the Radical Republican-led state government and their Reconstruction policies. Opponents disputed the challenger Wade Hampton III's victory,gained by a margin of little more than 1100 votes statewide. It also has two education centers The Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News and the Williamsburg Discovery Center in Williamsburg. It is part of the Virginia Community College System. The 2008 United States Senate election in Virginia was held on November 4,2008. Incumbent Republican Senator John Warner decided to retire instead of seeking a sixth term. Former Governor Mark Warner (unrelated) won the open seat by more than 31 percentage points. Warner became the first Democrat to win this seat since 1966. This was also the first time since 1964 that the state voted simultaneously for a Democratic presidential candidate and a Democratic Senate candidate,having voted for Barack Obama in the presidential election,albeit by a far lesser margin. The politics of Virginia have followed major historical events and demographic changes in the commonwealth. In the 21st century,the northern region has become more liberal in attitudes and voting,constituting a reliable voting bloc for Democrats and joining with population centers in the Richmond Metropolitan and Hampton Roads areas to dominate the state. Political orientation varies by region,with the larger cities and suburban areas generally voting Democratic and the rural areas voting Republican. The southern,rural regions have remained Republican. Until 2021 when the GOP swept all statewide offices,Virginia was shifting more Democratic and now is considered a swing state again by most pundits.

Richard L. Anderson is an American politician. From 2010 through 2018 he served in the Virginia House of Delegates,representing the 51st district in the Prince William County suburbs of Washington,D.C. He is a member of the Republican Party. Anderson lost his reelection bid in Virginia's November 2017 election. Since 2020,Anderson serves as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
Gordon Clair Helsel,Jr. is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and former mayor of Poquoson,Virginia. He represented the 91st district,which includes Poquoson and part of the neighboring city of Hampton. A retired businessman,Helsel previously served on the city council (1982–1990),as vice mayor (1990–1994),and as mayor (1996–2010) of Poquoson.
Virginia's 1999 state elections were held on November 2,1999. Voters elected all 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates to two-year terms ending in 2002,and all 40 members of the Virginia Senate to four-year terms ending in 2004. There were also elections for local offices in most counties. Following the 2023 House of Delegates election,the 91st district will instead include sections of the independent cities of Portsmouth and Chesapeake.

Virginia voters chose electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote,pitting the Republican Party's nominee,incumbent President Donald Trump,and running mate Vice President Mike Pence against Democratic Party nominee,former Vice President Joe Biden,and his running mate California Senator Kamala Harris. Virginia has 13 electoral votes in the Electoral College.
Martha Mugler is an American politician from Virginia. She was first elected to the Hampton School Board in 2008 then to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019. She won the seat vacated by retiring Republican Delegate Gordon Helsel. She represented a district covering a large slice of Hampton,as well as all of the neighboring city of Poquoson. In 2021,she was initially declared the loser to Republican Aijalon "A.C." Cordoza,an information technology specialist. However,due to the closeness of the win,a recount was held. After the recount,Mugler conceded. She was elected to an at large seat on Hampton City Council on November 8,2022.
Aijalon Carlton "A.C." Cordoza is an American politician from Virginia. He was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2021,defeating incumbent Democratic Delegate Martha Mugler. Cordoza represents the 86th district,which covers a large slice of Hampton,as well as all of the neighboring city of Poquoson,and a small slice of neighboring York County.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election took place on November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate,to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. Democrats gained 3 seats,winning back control with a 51–49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates,to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census. The Democrats retained control of the Senate.
