Thomas Ian Pauling AO KC (13 December 1946 –23 November 2023) was an Australian lawyer and an Administrator of the Northern Territory.
Born in Sydney,Pauling was educated at Drummoyne Boys' High School,and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Sydney Law School (Syd). He was admitted to the Bar in New South Wales in 1969,and worked for the NSW Public Solicitor. [1] In March 1970,he moved to Darwin in the Northern Territory,where he practised as a barrister [2] and lived in Fannie Bay. [3]
Pauling was made a Queen's Counsel (QC) in 1984,and was Solicitor-General of the Northern Territory from 1988 to 2007. [4] [5]
In September 2007,he was appointed Administrator of the Northern Territory,replacing Ted Egan. [6] He was sworn in by the Governor-General of Australia,Michael Jeffery,on 9 November 2007. [7] His term expired on 31 October 2011 when Sally Thomas was sworn in as the first female Administrator of the Northern Territory. [8]
In the 2008 Queen's Birthday Honours,Pauling was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) "for service to the Northern Territory through significant contributions to the law,particularly relating to constitutional matters,to the development of legal organisations and the promotion of professional standards,and to the community." [9]
Pauling died on 23 November 2023,at the age of 76. [10]
Clare Majella Martin is a former Australian journalist and politician. She was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in a shock by-election win in 1995. She was appointed Opposition Leader in 1999,and won a surprise victory at the 2001 territory election,becoming the first Labor Party (ALP) and first female Chief Minister of the Northern Territory. At the 2005 election,she led Territory Labor to the second-largest majority government in the history of the Territory,before resigning as Chief Minister on 26 November 2007.

Brian Ross Martin is an Australian jurist. He was a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia before being appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 2004. He served in the Northern Territory between 2004 and 2010. He served as an acting Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2012. In legal texts,he is referred to as "Martin (BR) CJ" to avoid confusion with his predecessor.
Sally Gordon Thomas is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory,serving from 1992 to 2009. She was appointed to the Court on 10 August 1992 and was the first woman to be appointed a Judge of the Court. She was sworn in as the first female Administrator of the Northern Territory in October 2011. One of her first engagements in the role was to welcome Barack Obama,the President of the United States,to Darwin during his visit in November 2011.
Brian Frank Martin was the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. He was appointed to that position on 26 February 1993 when the former Chief Justice Austin Asche took up appointment as Administrator of the Northern Territory. Chief Justice Martin was appointed a Judge of the Court in 1987 and,following his retirement,still assisted the Court as an Acting Judge having been appointed to that position in 2004.
Robert Lindsay Collins AO was a Labor Party member of the Australian Senate from July 1987 to March 1998,representing the Northern Territory. Prior to entering the Senate,Collins was a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1977 to 1987,and Leader of the Territory Opposition from 1981 to 1986. He was the first Northern Territorian to become a federal minister. He killed himself after being charged with child sex offences.
Paul Raymond Henderson is a former Australian politician who was Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from 2007 to 2012. He has been Chancellor of Charles Darwin University since March 2019.
The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the main museum in the Northern Territory. The museum is located in the inner Darwin suburb of Fannie Bay. The MAGNT is governed by the Board of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and is supported by the Museums and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory Foundation. Each year the MAGNT presents both internally developed exhibitions and travelling exhibitions from around Australia. Located in Parliament House in Darwin City,it is the premier public research and archival organisation focused on the history,development and culture of the Northern Territory of Australia. The library holds more than 108,000 books and 30,000 items. The archive holds Northern Territory Government records,which are normally opened 30 years after they were created.

Michael Patrick Francis Gunner is an Australian former politician who was the 11th Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from 2016 to 2022. He was a Labor member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly,holding the seat of Fannie Bay in Darwin from the retirement of then Chief Minister Clare Martin at the 2008 election until his resignation in July 2022.
