Tore Østby (born 1972) is a founder, guitarist, producer, and songwriter for Norwegian progressive metal band Conception. [1] [2] After the band stopped playing on a permanent basis (the band was active from 1989 to 1998 and went on a 10-year hiatus) he, along with John Macaluso and Jørn Lande formed progressive metal band Ark. [3]


Tore is currently working as a senior advisor at GramArt, an organization established in 1989 to protect the recording artists’ intellectual property rights, other legal rights, and professional interests.

On April 30, 2018, it was announced that Tore's original band Conception was reunited with new material. [4]

Tore is married to Swedish guitarist Maria Engstroem Østby.

Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Kamelot American power metal band

Kamelot is an American power metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed by Thomas Youngblood, in 1987. The Norwegian vocalist Roy Khan joined for the album Siége Perilous, and shared songwriting credit with Youngblood until his departure in April 2011. On June 22, 2012, Youngblood announced on their website that their new vocalist would be the Swedish singer Tommy Karevik, who was first featured on Kamelot's album Silverthorn as the main vocalist, co-songwriter, and lyricist.

Coroner (band) Swiss thrash metal band

Coroner is a Swiss thrash metal band from Zürich. They garnered relatively little attention outside of Europe. Formed in 1983, the band broke up in 1996, but reformed 14 years later. The band has performed at multiple live venues and festivals around the world since 2011, and plans to release a new album in 2020 or 2021. Coroner's music combines elements of thrash, classical music, avant-garde music, progressive rock, jazz, and industrial metal with suitably gruff vocals. With their increasingly complex style of progressive rock-infused thrash, they have been called "the Rush of thrash metal". Coroner's sound then progressed and the production became more refined, resulting in the more progressive albums No More Color (1989), Mental Vortex (1991) and Grin (1993).

Jørn Lande, is a Norwegian hard rock and heavy metal singer and songwriter. He is known for his work with the bands Ark, Beyond Twilight, Millenium, Vagabond, The Snakes, and most notably with power metal band Masterplan. He is also the most recurrent guest singer of the international supergroup Avantasia, and has worked as lead and guest singer in several projects. Currently, he is focusing his activities on his solo project Jorn. In 2014, Lande was hired by Riot Games to be the voice of the character Karthus, of the fictional heavy metal band Pentakill, on their debut album Smite and Ignite, recording vocals for the songs "Lightbringer" and "Thornmail". He was also hired to sing most of the songs for their 2017 album Grasp of the Undying.

Ark was a progressive metal band from Norway founded by guitarist Tore Østby and drummer John Macaluso, who later joined up with singer Jørn Lande to record two albums. Lande, Østby and Macaluso were joined by Randy Coven on bass and Mats Olausson on keyboards for their second effort.

Roy Sætre Khantatat, commonly known as Roy Khan, is a Norwegian singer-songwriter who is the lead singer for the Norwegian progressive metal band Conception and was the lead vocalist for the symphonic power metal band Kamelot from 1997 until his departure in 2011. He co-wrote most of Kamelot's songs with the band's guitarist and founder Thomas Youngblood during his tenure. Khan had retired from music in 2011 until 2018, when he released a new solo song on YouTube and announced the return of Conception.
