Transcaribe is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system which operates in the city of Cartagena, Colombia, and was inaugurated in March 2016. [1] It consists of 16 stations, and centers around a dedicated 10.5 kilometres (6.5 mi) bus lane along Avenida Pedro de Heredia from the El Portal terminal to the city's old town. [1] For the first two months after it opened, (November and December 2015), the system was free to encourage ridership. Transcaribe's 150-passenger articulated buses are powered by compressed natural gas. [1] Unlike Colombia's older BRT systems in Bogotá (Transmileno) and Pereira, Transcaribe was designed to offer hybrid service (pretroncal) on bus lanes and city streets; this eliminated the need to change buses on routes to Crespo, Bocagrande, and Cartagena's southeastern suburbs. Bus rapid transit

Bus rapid transit (BRT), also called a busway or transitway, is a bus-based public transport system designed to improve capacity and reliability relative to a conventional bus system. Typically, a BRT system includes roadways that are dedicated to buses, and gives priority to buses at intersections where buses may interact with other traffic; alongside design features to reduce delays caused by passengers boarding or leaving buses, or purchasing fares. BRT aims to combine the capacity and speed of a metro with the flexibility, lower cost and simplicity of a bus system.

The city of Cartagena, known in the colonial era as Cartagena de Indias, is a major port founded in 1533, located on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean Coast Region. It was strategically located between the Magdalena and Sinú rivers and became the main port for trade between Spain and its overseas empire, establishing its importance by the early 1540s. During the colonial era it was a key port for the export of Peruvian silver to Spain and for the import of enslaved Africans under the asiento system. It was defensible against pirate attacks in the Caribbean. It is the capital of the Bolívar Department, and had a population 971,592 as of 2016. It is the fifth-largest city in Colombia and the second largest in the region, after Barranquilla. The urban area of Cartagena is also the fifth-largest urban area in the country. Economic activities include the maritime and petrochemicals industries, as well as tourism.

Bus lane lane restricted to buses

A bus lane or bus-only lane is a lane restricted to buses, often on certain days and times, and generally used to speed up public transport that would be otherwise held up by traffic congestion. Bus lanes are a key component of a high-quality bus rapid transit (BRT) network, improving bus travel speeds and reliability by reducing delay caused by other traffic.

Janmarg, also known as Ahmedabad BRTS, is a bus rapid transit system in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is operated by Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, a subsidiary of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and others. It is designed by CEPT University. It was inaugurated in October 2009. The network expanded to 89 kilometres (55 mi) by December 2017 with daily ridership of 3,49,000 passengers. BRTS won several nation and international awards for design, implementation and operation. It was rated Silver on BRT Standard in 2013.

Bangalore BRTS was a proposed bus rapid transit system in Bangalore, Karnataka. Beginning with a comprehensive report in 2007, and even earlier, several proposals were made to implement a BRTS in Bangalore.

Mumbai BRTS is a bus rapid transit system in Mumbai, India.

The Delhi BRTS was a bus rapid transit system in Delhi. The first route opened in 2008 ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games which were held in the city. The project was well used but has been criticised for the difficulty of access to the bus platforms, which are in the middle of the road, for lack of enforcement and for the effect it has had on other motor traffic. A legal challenge was defeated in 2012.

The Coimbatore BRTS is a proposed bus rapid transit system for the city of Coimbatore under the JNNURM scheme. Project stretch of about 18.6 km starting at Avinashi Road and ending at Mettupalayam Road running through Dr.Rajendra Prasath Road. After Avinashi road, the project road turns left from Stanes School and passes along Dr.Nanjappa road and joins at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road. Avinashi road, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road and Mettupalyam road are provided with the exclusive lane for buses termed BRTS lane and the connecting links are allowed to flow with the mixed traffic.

Guangzhou Bus Rapid Transit is the bus rapid transit (BRT) system of the city of Guangzhou in the People's Republic of China. Its first line was put into operation on 10 February 2010. It handles approximately 1,000,000 passenger trips daily with a peak passenger flow of 26,900 pphpd. In fact, this rapid transit system contains the world's longest BRT stations - around 260m including bridges - with bus volumes of 1 bus every 10 seconds or 350 per hour in a single direction. The BRT system has two new lines and two extensions planned.

Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System

The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System is a planned mass transit system for Cebu City located within the greater Cebu Metropolitan Area. It is expected to become the first operational bus rapid transit project in the Philippines. Only one line has been planned in detail so far, but scheme developers note the potential to develop a larger network comprising the adjacent cities Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue and Talisay. Leadership in both Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue have shown interest in the network. This will be constructed at the end or last quarter of 2017 and the first route could be operational by the end of 2019.

Transport in Coimbatore

Coimbatore has a well-developed transport infrastructure. The city and its suburbs is traversed using its road networks. Coimbatore is well connected by Road, Rail and Air with most cities and towns in India except through waterways. The city has fairly better transport infrastructure, though road infrastructures are not well maintained and developed according to the growing needs of transport, making traffic congestion a major problem in the city. A comprehensive transport development plan is made part of Coimbatore Masterplan as part to ease many of traffic problems.

Bus rapid transit in New Jersey

Bus rapid transit in New Jersey comprises limited-stop bus service, exclusive bus lanes (XBL) and bus bypass shoulders (BBS). Under the banner Next Generation Bus New Jersey Transit (NJT), the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), and the metropolitan planning organizations of New Jersey (MPO) which recommend and authorize transportation projects are undertaking the creation of several additional bus rapid transit systems (BRT) in the state. In 2011, NJT announced that it would equip its entire bus fleet with devices for real-time locating, thus creating the basis for "next bus" scheduling information at bus shelters. The introduction and expanded use of bus rapid transit in Garden State is part of worldwide phenomenon to bring mass transit to heavily trafficked corridors in both high and medium density areas as a cost-saving, and sometimes more flexible, alternative to rail transportation, thus reducing automobile dependency and traffic congestion.

BRT creep comprises several types of gradual erosions in service that sometimes affect a bus rapid transit (BRT) system, resulting in a service that is not up to the standards promised by BRT advocates. In its ideal form, BRT aims to combine the capacity and speed of a light rail system with the flexibility, cost and simplicity of a bus system. BRT creep occurs when a system that promises these features instead acts more like a standard, non-rapid bus system.

BRT Sunway Line

The BRT Sunway Line is a bus rapid transit (BRT) line that is part of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System servicing the southeastern suburbs of Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. This line is operated by Rapid Bus and was introduced in 2015 to service the high-density areas of Sunway and Subang Jaya, replacing an earlier proposal plan for the now defunct Sunway Monorail extension.

Taichung BRT

The Taichung BRT was a bus rapid transit (BRT) system located in Taichung which stretched from Taichung TRA station to Providence University via Taichung's main road, Taiwan Boulevard. The line was 17.1-kilometer (10.6 mi) in length with 21 stations. It was the first BRT line in Taiwan. The line was converted to dedicated bus lane for conventional buses on July 8, 2015 and the BRT is no longer in operation.

Rainbow Bus Rapid Transit System

Rainbow BRTS is a bus rapid transit system in the twin cities of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, in Maharashtra, India. The system is operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). The infrastructure has been developed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The project currently envisages 113 km of dedicated bus corridors along with buses, bus stations, terminals and intelligent transit management system.

Bocagrade is a neighbourhood in the city of Cartagena de Indias in Bolívar, Colombia, It was designed with first-world standards, such as residential areas of restricted access, and a separate plant for processing waste water.

Chengdu BRT

Chengdu Bus Rapid Transit is a Bus Rapid Transit system in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in the People's Republic of China. The current system consists of a loop line integrated with the Chengdu Second Ring Road with dedicated bus lanes running in the center two lanes of the expressway. Transfers are available to several Chengdu Metro stations. The line began a free trial run on May 31, 2013, and started official operation on June 11, 2013. It has 29 center platform stations located in expressway median which requires special buses with the doors on the left. The loop is served by Lines K1, K1A, K2 and K2A. All buses have wifi. A new 7.8 km (4.8 mi) radial line heading northeast from the BRT loop to Qingbaijiang District is under construction. The line, called the Fenghuang Shan BRT, is scheduled to open in 2017. Another 4.5 km (2.8 mi) elevated BRT line heading south of the BRT loop is also currently under constriction. This line is known as the Jiannan Avenue BRT and is projected to open in 2018. Additional BRT lines are planned to radiate from the loop with lines heading west to Wenjiang District, east via Shanbanqiao Road and south to Tianfu New Area. Additionally another BRT loop along the Third Ring Road was proposed.
