Triumph is the thirty-first album by Finnish experimental rock band Circle, released in 2008.

Experimental rock is a subgenre of rock music which pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Artists aim to liberate and innovate, with some of the genre's distinguishing characteristics being improvisational performances, avant-garde influences, odd instrumentation, opaque lyrics, unorthodox structures and rhythms, and an underlying rejection of commercial aspirations.

Circle (band) experimental rock band from Finland

Circle is a Finnish experimental rock band formed in Pori in 1991. Their eclectic, ever-changing style has been associated with genres such as krautrock, heavy metal, progressive rock, and ambient. On some albums they have defined themselves as New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal (NWOFHM).

Contents

It is the second Circle album (following 2006's Arkades ) to be recorded live in session for WFMU, a radio station based in Jersey City, New Jersey. It was originally broadcast on 25 September 2007. Again, the host was Brian Turner, and bassist Jussi Lehtisalo's sleevenotes gently pillory the DJ.

Arkades Circle album

Arkades is the twenty-first album by the Finnish experimental rock band Circle. It was originally released in 2006 by Fourth Dimension Records as part of a series of vinyl-only albums by Circle which document their often improvised freeform live shows. The original release contained two side-long tracks recorded for the WFMU radio station in Jersey City, New Jersey, on 27 September 2005. The original sleeve notes, which imagine Circle as a gang of Jack Daniel's-swigging, gun-toting bandeleros, were provided by the station's music director Brian Turner.

WFMU is a listener-supported, independent community radio station licensed to East Orange, New Jersey. It broadcasts at 91.1 Mhz FM in Jersey City, New Jersey. It also broadcasts to the Hudson Valley, the Lower Catskills, western New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania from Mount Hope, New York at 90.1 WMFU, and to New York City and Rockland County at 91.9 FM. Overall, it covers most of the New York metropolitan area, and presents a freeform radio format. It is the longest-running freeform radio station in the U.S. The station's main terrestrial transmitter is located in West Orange, New Jersey.

New Jersey State of the United States of America

New Jersey is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Northeastern United States. It is a peninsula, bordered on the north and east by the state of New York, particularly along the extent of the length of New York City on its western edge; on the east, southeast, and south by the Atlantic Ocean; on the west by the Delaware River and Pennsylvania; and on the southwest by the Delaware Bay and Delaware. New Jersey is the fourth-smallest state by area but the 11th-most populous, with 9 million residents as of 2017, and the most densely populated of the 50 U.S. states; its biggest city is Newark. New Jersey lies completely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia and was the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income as of 2017.

The album was originally released as a double LP on Fourth Dimension Records in 2008. It was re-issued on CD soon afterwards, and the CD packaging closely resembles the vinyl edition, recreating the gatefold sleeve and disc inlays. The last track, "Murheenkryyni", also features on the 2007 album Rakennus and with English lyrics under the title "Requiem In D Minor: Suddenly" on the 2008 album Hollywood .

Fourth Dimension Records is a British record label, specialising in international underground music. It was founded by Gary Levermore as an offshoot of his Third Mind label before being taken over by Richard Johnson in 1984. The label became quite successful in the 1990s, releasing music by Simon Wickham-Smith & Richard Youngs, KK Null, The Gerogerigegege, Circle, Splintered (band), Thurston Moore, Hijokaidan (band), and Merzbow, side projects by members of Amp and Skullflower and myriad 7" and 10" singles by experimental artists from the UK, US, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Japan. Alongside the label, Johnson also ran a mail order service, stocking rare underground releases from around the world.
