Ulmeni is a commune in Buzău County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of five villages: Băltăreți, Clondiru, Sărata, Ulmeni and Vâlcele.

The commune is composed of seven villages: Dăneștii Chioarului (Dánfalva), Iadăra (Jeder), Lucăcești (Szamoslukácsi), Mireșu Mare, Remeți pe Someș (Gyökeres), Stejera (Jávorfalu) and Tulghieș (Szamostölgyes).

The Sărata is a left tributary of the river Ialomița in Romania. It discharges into the Ialomița in Urziceni. It flows through the villages Sărata-Monteoru, Ulmeni, Movila Banului, Mihăilești, Glodeanu Sărat, Armășești, and Bărbulești. Its length is 72 km (45 mi) and its basin size is 1,290 km2 (500 sq mi).

Ion Vasile Oană is a Romanian retired football player, who played as a striker. Playing for Gloria Bistriţa, he was the top goalscorer of 1997–98 Divizia A alongside Constantin Barbu with 21 goals each. He scored 32 goals in over 100 matches in Liga I. Oană also played abroad in Turkey at Ankaragücü and Maccabi Kiryat Gat in Israel. He coached Liga IV team Someşul Ulmeni, and now he coaches one of the FC Baia Mare junior teams.
Ioan Dragomir was a Romanian bishop of the Greek-Catholic Church. Born into a peasant family in Ariniș, Maramureș County, he attended high school in Zalău and Baia Mare. Dragomir then studied theology in Gherla, remaining there several years as a teacher. After his ordination, he was a parish priest from 1932 to 1934 in Coştiui, Hoteni and Ocna Şugatag. He left to study theology at Strasbourg but returned early due to ill health. After recovering, Dragomir finished his studies in Rome, becoming a doctor of theology. He was named archpriest of Satu Mare and also canon at the Baia Mare cathedral. Despite experiencing persecution, Dragomir led an active religious life during the period when Northern Transylvania was ceded to Hungary. Following the area's return to Romania, he helped reopen Romanian schools and set up curricula.
