The University of Mauritius (UoM) (French : Université de Maurice) is the national university of Mauritius. It is the oldest and largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered. The public university's main campus is located at Réduit, Moka.
The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965,incorporating the existing School of Agriculture. In 1971, the University of Mauritius Act further defined the objects, powers, functions and structure of the university. On 24 March 1972, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, inaugurated the University of Mauritius. The first chancellor of the university of Mauritius was Her Royal Highness the Princess Alexandra, the Honourable Lady Ogilvy.
The Faculty of Agriculture is the oldest faculty of the university. It was founded in 1914 as the School of Agriculture, and in 1966 it was incorporated into the newly established University of Mauritius. The Faculty of Agriculture operates the UoM Farm, an open laboratory of 8.5 hectares (21 acres).
The faculty comprises two departments: Agricultural & Food Science; and Agricultural Production & Systems. As of 2015, it has 415 students and 21 full-time academic staff.
The Faculty of Engineering was originally established as the School of Industrial Technology in 1968. It comprises six departments: Applied Sustainability and Enterprise Development; Chemical and Environmental Engineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and Mechanical and Production Engineering. As of 2015, it has 2665 students and 94 full-time academic staff.
The Faculty of Law & Management was created in 1993, when the former School of Law, Management and Social Studies was restructured. It comprises three departments: Finance and Accounting; Law; and Management. As of 2015, it has 3691 students and 51 full-time academic staff.
The Faculty of Ocean Studies is the youngest and smallest faculty. It was established in 2014 and comprises three departments: Marine and Ocean Science, Fisheries and Mariculture; Ocean Engineering and ICT; and Maritime Trade and Finance. As of 2015, it has 13 students and 10 full-time academic staff.
The Faculty of Science was founded as School of Science in 1988. It comprises six departments: Biosciences; Chemistry; Health Sciences; Mathematics; Medicine; and Physics. As of 2015, it has 1135 students and 52 full-time academic staff.
The Faculty of Social Studies & Humanities was established in 1993, when the former School of Law, Management and Social Studies was restructured. It comprises five departments: Economics and Statistics; English Studies; French Studies; History and Political Science; and Social Studies. As of 2015, it has 2039 students and 68 full-time academic staff.
In addition to the six faculties, the University of Mauritius also includes a Centre for Innovative Lifelong Learning (CILL),a Centre for Information Technology & Systems (CITS) and a Centre for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research (CBBR).
The Students’ Union is run by and for students. It works for the interest of students. All students are automatically members of the Students’ Union, the membership fee being included in the registration.
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is a research university with campuses in Munich, Garching, Freising-Weihenstephan, Heilbronn and Dover, Singapore. It is a member of TU9, an incorporated society of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. Higher education in Mauritius includes colleges, universities and other technical institutions. The University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) is a public research university in Mauritius. The main campus lies in La Tour Koenig, Pointe-aux-Sables, within the district of Moka. It was founded following the government of Mauritius approval of the setting up of the University of Technology, Mauritius in January 2000 and the proclamation of The University of Technology, Mauritius Act on 21 June 2000.
The University of Moratuwa is a technological university in Sri Lanka. It is located on the bank of the Bolgoda Lake in Katubedda, Moratuwa. Apart from academics including undergraduate and postgraduate studies, the University of Moratuwa presents social and cultural activities, student services, societies, and sports and recreational activities. The institution was known as Ceylon College of Technology, Katubedda before gaining university status. Its roots go back to the Institute of Practical Technology founded in 1960 to provide technical education.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a university in Kumasi, Ashanti, Ghana. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is the public university established in the country, as well as the largest university in the Kumasi Metropolis and in the Ashanti Region. KNUST has its roots in the plans of the King Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh I to establish a university in Kumasi as part of his drive towards modernization of his Ashanti kingdom. This plan never came to fruition due to the clash between British empire expansion and the desire for King Prempeh I to preserve his Ashanti kingdom's independence.

The Jordan University of Science and Technology, often abbreviated JUST, is a comprehensive, state-supported university located on the outskirts of Irbid, at Ar Ramtha in northern Jordan. Since its establishment in 1986, JUST has been at the forefront of institutions of higher learning in the Arab world, it also maintains a high reputation and standard amongst the universities of the Middle East. JUST and the University of Jordan in Amman are considered to be the two premier institutions of higher education for engineering and medicine in the country, although numerous other faculties and specializations are represented as well. The university was described as the best scientific institution in the Kingdom by King Abdullah II during a visit in November 2010. As of the 2006/2007 academic year, JUST had 717 faculty members, with 20,000 undergraduate and 1559 graduate students, in contrast to 2,300 students in the 1986/1987 academic year. At the present time, the university comprises 12 faculties and 55 departments providing 52 bachelor's degree and 95 postgraduate programs. JUST comprised 5,415 international students of 61 nationalities in the academic year 2009/2010, rendering it the most cultural-diverse university in Jordan. It was ranked as the top research university in the country, and amongst the top 3% of universities in the Islamic world, according to a study carried out by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRTCIC).
The University of Abuja is a tertiary institution in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. It was established on January 1, 1988 as a dual-mode university with the mandate to run conventional and distance learning programmes. Academic work began in the University in 1990 with the matriculation of its pioneer students.
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura is a university in Sri Lanka. It is in Gangodawila, Nugegoda, near Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, the capital city. It was formed in 1958 out of the Vidyodaya Pirivena, a Buddhist educational centre which was founded in 1873 by Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thera.
University of Kurdistan is the largest university in Iranian Kurdistan Province, located in south of Sanandaj. The University of Kurdistan was ranked as the eighth top university in Iran in academic year 2007-2008 and was ranked as the first top developing university in Iran in academic year 2006-2007.
The University of Jaffna is a public university in the city of Jaffna in Sri Lanka. Established in 1974 as the sixth campus of the University of Sri Lanka, it became an independent, autonomous university in 1979. Like all public universities in Sri Lanka, UoJ receives the bulk of its funding from the University Grants Commission (UGC), part of the Ministry of Higher Education in Colombo. The UGC and the central government therefore exert a great deal of control over the university.
