This album marked the end of Özgencil and Erçetin's collaboration. Elbette was produced by Rıza Erekli and recorded at Erekli & Tunç Studio in Istanbul.

It was her second studio album released by this company, and her first major work since the 2004 release of Melek. The album features elements of pop music, folk music and hip hop. Candan Erçetin is the album's major songwriter, having written ten of its songs on her own. Out of these ten songs, six of them were composed by her as well. All of the songs were arranged by Alper Erinç.

It is a pop album, and like Erçetin's previous works contains elements of Balkan music.

After "using dark and introspective themes" in her fourth studio album Vaveyla (2012), Sıla started working on Yeni Ay "at a time of feeling well". She wrote all of the songs by herself and composed them together with Efe Bahadır. She also produced the album together with Bahadır. İskender Paydaş, Can Baydar, Bedük and Fatih Ahıskalı also worked on the album. The recording of the album began in late 2013 and continued until early 2014. The album was recorded in Istanbul at Babajim Studios and in Athens at Sierra Studios.
