Vaalgras (Afrikaans : pale grass) is a village in Namibia's ǁKaras Region. Located 60 kilometres (37 mi) northeast of Keetmanshoop, the village is also home of the Vaalgras Traditional Authority. [1] It is home to a community of the Oorlam people, a group descends from the OvaHerero, Nama and other groups. [2]

Culturally distinguishable from the Herero people, the OvaHimba are a semi-nomadic, pastoralist people and speak OtjiHimba, a variety of Herero, which belongs to the Bantu family within Niger–Congo. The OvaHimba are semi-nomadic as they have base homesteads where crops are cultivated, but may have to move within the year depending on rainfall and where there is access to water.

He was killed in action on 29 October 1905. Witbooi is regarded as one of the national heroes of Namibia, and his face is portrayed on the obverse of all N$50, N$100, and N$200 Namibian dollar banknotes.
