Venicile Vyapari, (transl. The Merchant of Venice) is a 2011 Indian Malayalam-language Action-romantic comedy film directed by Shafi, starring Mammootty, Kavya Madhavan and Poonam Bajwa. The film's plot unfolds in Alappuzha, a town in Kerala popularly known as the Venice of the East. Written by James Albert, the story follows a murder mystery. [1] [2]
The story revolves around Pavithran, who lost his parents in his childhood. He enters the police force by chance, though it is not his ambition to do so. Pavithran lands up in Alappuzha (Alappuzha incidentally is attributed to the sobriquet, Venice of the East) disguised as a merchant to investigate the murder of a union leader named Ajayan. Another character is Ammu, who is the leader of the union of coir workers and is in love with Pavithran.
The film was produced by Madhavan Nair under the banner of Murali Films. Mammootty stars in the film with Vijayaraghavan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sreeraman, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Rajan Padoor form the supporting cast.
Shooting commenced in August 2011, [3] and the film was mostly shot from Alappuzha. [4] The song "Kannum Kannum" was shot in Ooty. [5]
The film was scheduled to release on 4 November 2011, but was postponed to 11 November 2011 since there was a delay in the post production work of the film. [6] Release was postponed again to 16 December 2011 due to a film strike in Kerala.
Sify movies gave the film a rating of 2.5/5, criticising the script.[ citation needed ]
Bijibal composed the music for the film, which has lyrics by Kaithapram. The film has a remix of the song "Kannum Kannum" from the 1980 film Angadi . Mammootty stated that it was the desire of the director Shafi to use a hit song of the eighties in a dream scene of the film. [5]
Sethurama Iyer CBI is a 2004 Malayalam-language mystery crime film directed by K Madhu.The movie is written by S. N. Swami, and The movie stars Mammootty in titular role. Actors Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar played important supporting roles. Shyam composed the background score for the film.
Thilakkam (transl. Glitter) is a 2003 Indian Malayalam-language comedy-drama film directed by Jayaraj and written by Rafi Mecartin. Dileep, Kavya Madhavan and Thiagarajan play the lead roles. The rest of the cast include Nedumudi Venu, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Nishanth Sagar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Cochin Haneefa, Harisree Ashokan, Salim Kumar and Bindu Panicker. It was remade in Kannada as Nandeesha in 2012, starring Komal.
Madampi is a 2008 Indian Malayalam-language family drama film written and directed by B. Unnikrishnan. It stars Mohanlal, Ajmal Ameer, Siddique, Kavya Madhavan and Mallika Kapoor. The film was released on 4 July 2008. It received positive reviews from critics and was a box office success.
Narasimham is a 2000 Indian Malayalam-language action drama film directed by Shaji Kailas and written by Ranjith. The film stars Mohanlal in the title role with Thilakan, N. F. Varghese, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran and Jagathy Sreekumar in pivotal roles. Mammootty appears in a cameo role. Ee Pattanathil Bhootham is a 2009 Indian Malayalam-language fantasy comedy film directed by Johnny Antony. It stars Mammootty with Kavya Madhavan, Innocent, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Rajan P. Dev, Mahadevan, Janardhanan, Suresh Krishna and Spadikam George in supporting roles. The film is not based on the 1967 film Pattanathil Bhootham. The film was later dubbed in Hindi as Hamara Dost Bhoot Uncle.
