The ship was completed and commissioned in 1959 as the Royal Navy's HMS Hermes, and decommissioned in 1984. It was sold to India in 1987. INS Viraat was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 12 May 1987, and served for almost 30 years.

Darshan Thoogudeepa known mononymously as Darshan is an Indian actor, producer, and distributor who works predominantly in Kannada films. One of the leading contemporary actors of Kannada cinema, Darshan established the production house Thoogudeepa Productions in 2006. Its first production was Jothe Jotheyali, with Darshan in a special appearance. His performances in Anatharu (2007) and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (2012) won him praise from critics; his performance in the latter as the 19th-century warrior Sangolli Rayanna won him the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor.

Viraat Ramayan Mandir is a planned Hindu temple complex in Kaithwalia-Bahuarwa village located in the City of Motihari East Champaran district of Bihar, India, with an estimated budget of 500 crore (US$63 million). It is planned to be 123 metres (405 ft) high, almost double the height of the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia, and to have a hall that seats 20,000 people. The construction of the temple was scheduled to start in June 2015, but has been delayed following the Cambodia government's protest to the government of India.
