Vítonice is a village and municipality ( obec ) in Kroměříž District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic.
Obec is the Czech and Slovak word for a municipality. The literal meaning of the word is "commune" or "community". It is the smallest administrative unit that is governed by elected representatives. Cities are also municipalities. The council is called "obecní zastupitelstvo/obecné zastupiteľstvo" or "zastupitelstvo města/mestské zastupiteľstvo" or "zastupitelstvo městyse", the office is called "obecní úřad/obecný úrad" or "úřad města/mestský úrad" or "úřad městyse". An obec can have its own flag and coat of arms and is composed of one or more cadastral areas. An obec can have several settlements or parts whether villages or hamlets.
Kroměříž District is one of four districts (okres) within Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. Its capital is Kroměříž.
Zlín Region is an administrative unit of the Czech Republic, located in the south-eastern part of the historical region of Moravia. It is named after its capital Zlín. Together with the Olomouc Region it forms a cohesion area of Central Moravia. It is located in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, where the borders with Slovakia are formed by its eastern edge. It borders the South Moravian Region in the southwest, the Olomouc Region in the northwest and the Moravian-Silesian Region in the north. Culturally, the region is composed of parts of three traditional Moravian regions: Hanakia, the Moravian Slovakia and the Moravian Wallachia, as the city of Zlín lies roughly at their tripoint.
The municipality covers an area of 7.65 square kilometres (2.95 sq mi), and has a population of 460 (as at 3 July 2006).
Vítonice lies approximately 28 kilometres (17 mi) north-east of Kroměříž, 24 km (15 mi) north of Zlín, and 246 km (153 mi) east of Prague.
