Jolly Roger is the traditional English name for the flags flown to identify a pirate ship about to attack, during the early 18th century.
William Dunbar was a Scottish makar poet active in the late fifteenth century and the early sixteenth century. He was closely associated with the court of King James IV and produced a large body of work in Scots distinguished by its great variation in themes and literary styles. He was likely a native of East Lothian, as assumed from a satirical reference in The Flyting of Dumbar and Kennedie. His surname is also spelled Dumbar.

The FitzGerald / FitzMaurice dynasty is a Cambro-Norman and Anglo-Norman, and later Hiberno-Norman, aristocratic and royal dynasty. They have been peers of Ireland since at least the 13th century, and are described in the Annals of the Four Masters as being "more Irish than the Irish themselves" or Galls, due to assimilation with the native Gaelic aristocratic and popular culture. The dynasty has also been referred to as the Geraldines. They achieved power through the conquest of large swathes of Irish territory by the grandsons of Gerald FitzWalter of Windsor. Gerald was a Norman castellan in Wales, and is the male progenitor of the FitzMaurice and FitzGerald dynasty.
William Park (Brickyard) Kennedy was a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. From 1892 through 1903, he played for the Brooklyn Grooms/Superbas (1892–1901), New York Giants (1902) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1903). Kennedy batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Bellaire, Ohio.

The Elon Phoenix baseball team is the interscholastic baseball team from Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. They are part of the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association. The team is led by Head coach Mike Kennedy who is now in his 17th season as head coach.
