"Watch Out" is a drumstep song by French electronic band Dirtyphonics in collaboration with American DJ Bassnectar with vocals from the Ragga Twins. "Watch Out" was released on 31 March 2017 by independent electronic music label Monstercat.

Dirtyphonics is a French electronic music band from Paris, consisting of members Charly Barranger, Julien "PitchIn" Corrales and Julien "Pho" Lignon. Their music style is based on Hybrid, dubstep, drum and bass, drumstep.

Bassnectar American DJ and music producer

Lorin Ashton, better known under his stage name Bassnectar, is an American DJ and record producer.

The Ragga Twins, also known as RTC, are an English ragga and jungle MC duo of Deman Rocker and Flinty Badman. Originating from Hackney, England, they started out on London's Unity sound system, and are regarded as pioneers of the scene. AllMusic called them "crucial cogs in the development of U.K. dance music."

Speaking to Billboard Dance about how the track came together, Bassnectar said:

I was playing a show in Paris and hung out in the studio with the Dirtyphonics guys, we had this insane loop going and every time the downbeat synth hit everyone grimaced, but also like a really weird sense of pleasure at the same time. It took us like 89 years to finish cuz we kept making different versions, passing back and forth between half a dozen humans -- glad to see it finally alive and able to fly free into the world!

Dirtyphonics further stated in the same interview that adding the Ragga Twins into the track connected well. [1]

Reception and release

Alexa Shouneyia, writing for Billboard, said "The quick drums and intense bass paired with Ragga Twins' jungle influence helps this track feel like a summer party." [1] Jeanette Kats of Noiseporn said "With such a dominant combination of power thrown into one track, it could have easily been overdone and disappointing, but 'Watch Out' is a seamless blend of all the artists’ tastes and talents." [2] Harsh Makwana of Bangin Beats said "Juggling the drum beats from dubstep to DnB, 'Watch Out' is sure to keep you on your feet." [3] EDMSauce praised how well Dirtyphonics' drum and bass background blended well with the basslines from Bassnectar. [4]

On 11 May 2017, a drum cover of "Watch Out" was released to the Monstercat YouTube channel performed by drummer KJ Sawka. Matthew Meadow of YourEDM praised the cover, saying "when you put the talents of a world renowned drummer in the mix, you get something truly special." [5]

Monstercat is a Canadian independent electronic dance music record label based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 2011 by Mike Darlington and Ari Paunonen, the label released music on a tri-weekly basis until 2018, when this was changed to four releases a week.

Kevin Joseph Sawka, better known by his stage name KJ Sawka, is an American musician, record producer, and DJ. He plays drums in the bands Pendulum and Destroid.
