Wellingborough Aggregates Terminal is a rail freight terminal in Wellingborough, UK. It is operated by GRS Rail Services. [1]

In 2022, the terminal was the site of an electrification trial. As freight trains are usually loaded from above, it is not possible to install typical overhead lines. A new moveable overhead conductor was installed which retracts to allow loading of the train. [2]

21st-century modernisation of the Great Western Main Line

Network Rail planned to spend £5 billion on modernising the Great Western Main Line, its South Wales branch and other associated lines. The modernisation plans were announced at separate times but their development time-scales overlap in the 2010s. The work included electrification, resignalling, new rolling stock and station upgrades. According to Network Rail, the modernisation started in June 2010 and was due to end in 2017. As of December 2019, electrification was complete as far west as Cardiff Central, and also from Reading to Newbury.

The Felixstowe to Nuneaton railway upgrade in the United Kingdom is a series of upgrades being made to both a key strategic freight route and one that carries passengers on many parts. The route and the upgrade is sometimes abbreviated to F2N. The railway route includes the Birmingham–Peterborough line for a large part. The line links the Port of Felixstowe in Felixstowe, Suffolk with the Midlands and crosses the East Coast Main Line, the Midland Main Line and the West Coast Main Line. Much infrastructure in the UK is of Victorian origin and thus in need of an upgrade; F2N, being a key route, is no exception.
