Weziwe Tikana (born 3 November 1967) is a South African politician,educator and trade unionist. She was the Eastern Cape MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison from 2014 until 2022. She has been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2014. Tikana is a member of the African National Congress.
Tikana was born in Cala in the former Cape Province (now the Eastern Cape). She matriculated from Sewushe Commercial College. [1] She completed a teachers' course at Arthur Tsengiwe College of Education. Tikana holds a primary teachers' diploma from Belgravia Institute and a diploma in local government Management from the University of Pretoria. Tikana earned a diploma in labour law from Global Business Solution. [1]
Tikana worked as an educator and training officer at the Department of Education and the Xhalanga Entrepreneurial Development Centre. [1] She was also an adult basic education supervisor at the Cala Guidance Centre. She was also a senior administration officer at the Emalahleni Local Municipality and was employed as a director of municipal public participation at the Local Government and Traditional Affairs Department. Tikana also served on the Vukani Community Radio Station board. [1]
Tikana is a member of the African National Congress and the party's women's league and serves on both organisations' provincial executive committees. Tikana also served on the structures of the South African Democratic Teachers Union and the Xhalanga Youth Congress. [1]
Tikana served on the regional executive committee of the ANC's women's league in the former Engcobo Region and was a member of the inter-regional structure of the former Ngcobo,Queenstown and mid-Karoo region. [1] She also served as treasurer of the ANC's Chris Hani region.
Tikana is a former mayor of Sakhisizwe Local Municipality in the Chris Hani District Municipality and former South African Democratic Teachers Union deputy chair. [1] She was a member of the SALGA management committee and served as the chairperson of the Governance Sub-Committee of the organisation. [1]
In 2014 Tikana was elected as a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. She was then appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport,Safety and Liaison by premier Phumulo Masualle. [2] Tikana was re-elected to another term in the legislature in 2019. She remained in her position as MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison following Oscar Mabuyane's election as premier. She is the only member of Masualle's executive to be appointed to Mabuyane's executive. [3]
In June 2020,Tikana lost a court case in which she wanted the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader,Bantu Holomisa to retract a tweet raising concerns over a guest house,which is in her daughter's name,that the provincial government decided to use a COVID-19 isolation facility. Judge Gerald Bloem found it likely that Tikana was the owner or held a benefit in the Mioca Lodge in Cala. [4]
In March 2021,acting Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka found that there was no improper conduct by Tikana in relation to the procurement of her daughter's lodge as a COVID-19 quarantine site. [5] [6]
On 16 August 2022,Mabuyane reshuffled his executive council and removed Tikana as the MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison due to her support for Babalo Madikizela,his contender for provincial chairperson at the ANC's provincial elective conference in May 2022. [7]
Godfrey Phumulo Masualle is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since May 2019. He was Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises from May 2019 to March 2023,and before that he was the sixth Premier of the Eastern Cape from May 2014 to May 2019.
Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane is a South African politician who has been serving as the seventh Premier of the Eastern Cape since May 2019. He was previously Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environmental Affairs and Tourism in the Eastern Cape provincial government from May 2018 to May 2019.
McCollen Ntsikelelo Jack,known as Mac Jack,was a South African educator and politician. A member of the African National Congress,Jack was appointed to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in June 2013. He served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport,Safety and Liaison from June 2013 until May 2014,when he was appointed the MEC for Health. Following a cabinet reshuffle in March 2016,he was appointed the MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism. Jack held the position until his appointment as MEC for Education in May 2019,despite him briefly being demoted from the Executive Council in May 2017.
Sindiswa Griselda Gomba is a South African politician who was the Eastern Cape MEC for Health from 2019 to 2021. She became a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in March 2019. Babalo Madikizela is a South African urban planner and politician who served as the Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works from May 2019 to July 2022 and as a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from November 2018 to August 2022. Madikizela served as the provincial treasurer of the African National Congress (ANC) from October 2017 to May 2022.
Gerald Mlungisi Mvoko is a South African businessman and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Environmental Affairs since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since February 2018. Mvoko is the deputy provincial chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC). She served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health from 2014 to 2018,when she was appointed MEC for Social Development. From 2019 Dyantyi was a member of the South African National Assembly.
Pauline Jeanette Williams is a retired South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2004. In 2009,she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport,Arts and Culture. She left the legislature in 2014,only for her to return in 2015. She was then made MEC for Transport,Liaison and Safety in 2016. Williams was briefly out of the post in May 2017. In February 2018,she was made the MEC for Environmental Affairs. Williams left the legislature again in 2019.

Xolile Edmund Nqatha is a South African politician who has been the Eastern Cape MEC for Transport and Community Safety since 2022. A member of the African National Congress,he has been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2009. Nqatha served as the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from 2018 to 2019 and as the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2019 to 2022. On 9 March 2021,Kontsiwe was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for Human Settlements by premier Oscar Mabuyane. During a cabinet reshuffle on 16 August 2022,Kontsiwe was appointed as the MEC for Sports,Recreation,Arts and Culture.

She previously served as the MEC for Human Settlements from 2019 to 2021. Pieters served as the speaker of the Cacadu District Municipality from 2006 to 2018.
