William Asa Vines

William Asa "W.A." Vines was born on May 6, 1853, in Troy, Alabama to Chesley Daniel Vines and Elizabeth Matheny. He was orphaned as a boy and worked for two years in order to earn his passages to Texas by wagon train. Late, he hired himself out as a farmhand for more than 13 years before saving enough money to buy his own land. Vines married Martha Caroline Welch and had five children.

Vines and his family eventually moved to Plano. Later, Vines went on to be the director of Plano National Bank. His wife, Martha, died in 1911. Vines died in 1929 at the age of 76.

Vines High School, founded in 1976, in Plano, Texas rests on the former farmland of William Vines. His home was just west of the Vines High School.

McMillen High School

C.A. McMillen High School, commonly known as McMillen High School, McMillen, or MHS, is a secondary school serving grades nine and ten, located in the East Cluster of the Plano Independent School District. Murphy Middle School and Armstrong Middle School feed into McMillen. Students graduating from McMillen will attend Plano East Senior High School for the eleventh and twelfth grades. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.

On November 26, 1994, in a high school football playoff game in Texas, the Lions of John Tyler High School defeated the Panthers of Plano East Senior High School 48–44. The game drew national attention in the United States due to its wildly improbable and tumultuous finish, with seven touchdowns scored in the last four and a half minutes, and it won the 1995 Showstopper of the Year ESPY Award. It has been billed by many sportscasters, both in Texas and the rest of the United States, as the greatest high school football game ever played.

Comfort Allen "C.A." McMillen was born on January 12, 1818, in Washington County, Arkansas to Lewis McMillen and Charlotte Joy. McMillen married Lydia Maxwell. McMillen and Lydia started their journey to Texas in 1845 and arrived on January 1, 1846, on the banks of a creek. The McMillen family were able to get land at the cost of 25 cents an acre. The families near the creek built a robust farming community called Old Decator.
