The Yellow Jacket is the student newspaper for Waynesburg University. The newspaper is produced entirely by Waynesburg University students and is incorporated into many classes within the university's Department of Communication. [1] The Yellow Jacket features news on campus and community news, student opinion, coverage of the Presidents' Athletic Conference sports teams, and other topics of student or faculty interest. The Yellow Jacket publishes weekly during the academic year in print [2] and online. [3] The newspaper has been published under the Yellow Jacket nameplate since 1924, though student newspapers at Waynesburg University (then Waynesburg College) date back to 1894. Federal Judge John Clark Knox served as the first student editor of the first student newspaper at Waynesburg College.
Waynesburg University is a private university founded in ca. 1850 and located in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations, and enrolls over 2,500 students, including approximately 1,800 undergraduates.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) is an athletic conference which competes in the NCAA's Division III. Of its nine current member schools, all private, liberal arts institutions of higher learning, eight are located in Western Pennsylvania, with the other in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, an area adjoining and historically tied to Western Pennsylvania. The conference's footprint will expand slightly into Appalachian Ohio in 2020.
The Yellow Jacket is a member of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association and is affiliated with the Waynesburg University student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The PNA seeks to "advance the business interests of Pennsylvania news media companies" and protect the "free and independent press." It represents Pennsylvania newsmedia interests in the legislature, provides public educational services, and acts as an information clearinghouse.
The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), formerly known as Sigma Delta Chi, is the oldest organization representing journalists in the United States. It was established on April 17, 1909 at DePauw University, and its charter was designed by William Meharry Glenn.
The student staff of the Yellow Jacket has been recognized with over three dozen awards by the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence competition and the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association. In addition to individual or team awards, the newspaper has been recognized by SPJ with the Best All-Around Non-Daily Newspaper award in Region 4 twice (2004 and 2016) and a regional finalist in 2003, 2013, and 2014. [4] [5] [6] [7] In 2016, a team of student writers—Kimmi Baston, Anthony Conn, Teghan Simonton, and Mattie Winowitch—were named by SPJ as the National Winner in the In-Depth Reporting Category [8] for a series on opioid abuse in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The GW Hatchet is the student newspaper of the George Washington University. Founded in 1904, The Hatchet is the second-oldest newspaper in Washington, DC, only behind The Washington Post. The Hatchet is often ranked as one of the best college newspapers in the United States and has consistently won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and from the Associated Collegiate Press. Alumni of the GW Hatchet include numerous Pulitzer Prize winners, Emmy Award winners, politicians, news anchors, and editors of major publications.
The Metropolitan, or The Met as it is commonly called, is the school newspaper of Metropolitan State University of Denver. It has a weekly press run of 700 copies, which are distributed every Wednesday to more than 60 locations across the Auraria Campus and select locations in downtown Denver. The paper is a tabloid style publication with sections for news, sports, opinions, features and music. It focuses on issues of interest and concern to students at Metro and the other colleges located on the Auraria Campus.

Fusion is a student magazine at Kent State University. It was started in the fall of 2003 by founding editors Mandy Jenkins, Marie Cornuelle, and adviser Kate Common. Since then, the magazine has won several awards and continues to expand its audience base. Published twice a year by KSU students, Fusion addresses sexual minority issues within the general population using illustrative photo essays and in-depth feature articles. Available in print and online, the magazine strives to unify people of different backgrounds through education and awareness. Past stories tackled political trends, religion and sexuality, domestic partner benefits, LGBT athletes in the NCAA, anti-discrimination policies, parents coming out to spouses and children, gay adoption, AIDS support groups, physical and mental health issues, social change and more. Its national advertisers have included the popular lesbian magazine, Curve, as well as Pride & Equality Magazine.
The Globe is a newspaper published by Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was launched in 1967. Published once per week, the paper is written by student journalists. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review noted in 2006 that The Globe successfully revealed the identity of two buildings that Point Park University was looking into buying, even though the terms of the deal were subject to a confidentiality agreement.
The Red & Black is the student newspaper for Washington & Jefferson College. The student staff handles all aspects of the production, including writing, editing, graphic design, layout, and advertising sales. The Red & Black features campus events and happenings, student and faculty art, student opinion, college athletic coverage, and local and world news. Founded in 1909, the paper goes to press every Thursday with a weekly circulation of 1,250 copies.

The CU Independent is the student-run news publication for the University of Colorado Boulder. It has been digital-only since 2006, when it became one of the first major college newspapers to drop its print edition.
