"You’re Not My Kind of Girl" is a 1988 song by R&B/Pop group New Edition, and the second single from their fifth studio album, Heart Break .
Written and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis with Ralph Tresvant singing lead, Johnny Gill providing ad-libs and Ricky Bell leading the bridge, this mid-tempo song is about a man being fancied by a woman who he thinks is not his type, and is trying to gently let her down. His friends, meanwhile, can’t understand his lack of interest in the said female, who they believe is a catch.
Though the song was a sizable hit on urban radio, peaking at #3 on the R&B charts in the fall of 1988— unlike its predecessor, “If It Isn’t Love,” it failed to make the same impression on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart—where it peaked at #95.
The music video for “You’re Not My Kind of Girl” is set to a concert performance of the song (which was led in by the music video for “If It Isn’t Love.”) The concert was held at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. New Edition held a radio contest for tickets to the taping, which were won by LA resident, Viveca McGuire. The version of the song featured in the music video is the single version of the Extended Version, rather than the one from the studio album.

New Edition is an American R&B/pop group from the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, formed in 1978 by singer/rapper Bobby Brown. Their name is taken to mean a new edition of the Jackson 5. The group reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and is considered the blueprint for what would become the modern boy band. The lineup originally consisted of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, and Ralph Tresvant. Brown left the group in late 1985 to begin a successful solo career, and they continued as a quartet for one album, before adding Johnny Gill to the lineup in 1987. Early hits included "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now", and "Mr. Telephone Man". Tresvant was the lead singer on most of the songs. In 1990, both Gill and Tresvant released their own solo albums, while the remaining three members formed the trio Bell Biv DeVoe; the group ceased to work together for the first half of the 1990s.

"My Name Is Not Susan" is a song by American singer and actress Whitney Houston, released as the fourth single from her third album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990). The song is an uptempo new jack swing number in which Houston harshly tells off a lover who has mistakenly called her by his ex-girlfriend's name "Susan". She lets him know that if he cannot get over Susan, then their relationship is over. The music video for the song was directed by Lionel C. Martin and inspired by the 1958 film Vertigo.
