Passenger rail transport is one of the principal means of transport in the People's Republic of China, with rail passenger traffic exceeding 1.86 billion railway trips in 2011. It is operated by the China Railway Corporation (CR). The Spring Festival Travel Season is the peak railway travel season of the year.
The Shanghai–Kowloon through train was an intercity railway service between Hung Hom station in Kowloon, Hong Kong and Shanghai railway station in China, jointly operated by the MTR Corporation Limited of Hong Kong and China's national rail service. The numbers of this train service were Z99B and Z100B. Services operated along the East Rail line in Hong Kong, crossing the boundary between Hong Kong and Mainland China at Lo Wu/Luohu and then continuing along China's railway network via the Guangshen railway, Jingguang railway and the Hukun railway to Shanghai. The train ran every other day. The journey time was approximately 20 hours.
The Capital Airport Express of the Beijing Subway, also known by the initials ABC, Airport Beijing City, is an airport rail link from Beixinqiao station to the Beijing Capital International Airport. The line became operational on July 19, 2008. On subway maps, the Capital Airport Express' color is purplish gray .
The Beijing–Harbin high-speed railway is an operational high-speed railway corridor, announced in 2008 as part of the "Four Verticals and Four Horizontals" master railway network plan. It is part of the CRH's system of passenger dedicated lines, connecting Beijing Chaoyang railway station in Beijing and Harbin railway station in Harbin.

The train runs to Beijing and Hanoi every three days.
The Z17/18 Beijing-Harbin Through Train is a non-stop express train between Beijing and Harbin, capital of the Heilongjiang province, operated by Harbin Railway Bureau using 25T carriages. The 1242 km journey spans across almost the entire Beijing–Harbin railway. The train from Beijing railway station to Harbin West railway station is numbered Z17, with a journey time of 9 hours and 57 minutes; while the train in the opposite direction is numbered Z18, with a journey time of 10 hours and 15 minutes. It is also the second non-stop express train between Beijing and Harbin, after Z15/16.

China Railways 25G rolling stock, or China Railways 25 improved rolling stock is a series of passenger carriages built in China. The carriages run services in mainland China, and on the Trans-Siberian Railway for international services to Moscow. They are also exported to Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway, Guinea railways, and Uganda Standard Gauge railways.
The DJF2"Xianfeng" electric multiple unit is a model operated formerly by China Railway with traction motors distributed throughout the unit. It was developed in 2001 as a key task of the science and technology targets of the Ninth Five-Year Plan. It was an innovative and advanced design being the first Chinese multiple unit train to achieve 200 km/h (124 mph) and achieving a top test speed of 292.8 km/h (181.9 mph) in tests, but had numerous flaws in the design that complicated operations.
