Designed by the architects V.Gnevyshev, T.Tselikovskaya and N.Aleshkin, the station was the first on the line to be built to a single-vault design "walls in earth", i.e. where the walls of the station pit are incorporated into the design, and the main vault rests on top of them, thus saving time and resources for construction.
In its decoration, marble is used on the walls (white and red) and on the floor. Lighting comes from suspended fluorescent tubes, and the station features catamaran-style rises on the walls where the station name is displayed.
Presently the station is the most westwards on the main Peremohy Avenue, and is only a few kilometres from Kiev's circular motorway separating the city and Kiev Oblast. The avenue then becomes the M17 (E40) intercity motorway and continues westwards into Western Ukraine including the city of Zhytomyr (for which the station is named). As a result, it receives a moderate passenger traffic from the regional areas.

The Kharkiv Metro is the rapid transit system that serves the city of Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine. The metro was the second in Ukraine and the sixth in the USSR when it opened on August 22, 1975. The metro consists of three lines which operate on 38.7 kilometres (24.0 mi) of route and serve 30 stations. The system transported 223 million passengers in 2018.
Khreshchatyk is the main street of Kyiv, Ukraine. The street has a length of 1.2 km (0.81 mi). It stretches from the European Square (northeast) through the Maidan and to Bessarabska Square (southwest) where the Besarabsky Market is located. Chervony Khutir is the terminus station of the Kiev Metro's Syretsko-Pecherska Line, opened on May 23, 2008. The station's name arises from an old village "Chervony Khutir" that was subsequently absorbed into Kiev city limits and is now an industrial neighbourhood. The station is located amidst a woodland and at first was unlikely have any passengers at all. However, there is currently a much greater need for the station because it is right next to the construction of Kiev's third depot, Kharkivske, which has been a much needed acquisition to the line since the mid-1990s, yet due to financial difficulties caused by recessions, construction only began in 2004.
Klovska — is a station on Kiev Metro's Syretsko-Pecherska Line. Originally the station was a temporary terminus of the line between its opening date December 31, 1989 and prior to the expansion of the line to Vydubichy in December 1991.
Pecherska — is a station on Kiev Metro's Syretsko-Pecherska Line. Originally planned to open along with the main section of the line which in late 1991, problems with the escalator tunnel meant that work was delayed, and the station finally opened only six years later on December 27, 1997.
Vystavkovyi Tsentr is a station on the Kiev Metro's Obolonsko–Teremkivska Line, named after the exposition center that is located in the vicinity.
