The province is divided into six districts (Spanish : distritos, singular: distrito), each of which is headed by a mayor (alcalde):

Ethnic groups

The province is inhabited by indigenous citizens of Aymara descent. Spanish, however, is the language which the majority of the population (78.17%) learnt to speak in childhood, 20.94% of the residents started speaking using the Aymara language (2007 Peru Census). [2]

Warintapani

Phaqu Qawa (Sabaya)

Phaq'u Q'awa is a 5,203-metre-high (17,070 ft) mountain in the Cordillera Occidental in the Andes of Bolivia. It is situated in the Oruro Department, Sabaya Province, Sabaya Municipality. Phaq'u Q'awa lies southeast of Wila Qullu.

Wila Wilani (Moquegua-Tacna)

Wila Wilani or Ch'ankha Qullu is a mountain in the Andes of southern Peru, about 4,900 metres (16,076 ft) high. It is located in the Moquegua Region, Mariscal Nieto Province, Carumas District, and in the Tacna Region, Candarave Province, Candarave District. It lies west of a lake named Aqhuya Ch'alla, northwest of Paxsi Awki and east of Churi Laq'a, Ch'alluma and Ch'ankhani.

Pacocollo

Pacocollo also known as Chancane, is a 5,113-metre-high (16,775 ft) mountain in the Andes of southern Peru. It is located in the Moquegua Region, Mariscal Nieto Province, Carumas District, and in the Tacna Region, Candarave Province, Candarave District. Pacocollo lies west of a lake named Pasto Grande or Ajuachaya and Wila Wilani.

Phaqu Qawa (Moquegua-Tacna)

Phaq'u Q'awa is a 4,796-metre-high (15,735 ft) mountain in the Andes of southern Peru. It is located in the Moquegua Region, Mariscal Nieto Province, Carumas District, and in the Tacna Region, Candarave Province, Candarave District. It lies west of a lake named Aqhuya Ch'alla and southeast of Wila Wilani.
