Carletonville is a town in the West Rand District Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, just north of the richest gold-mining area in the world. At 3,749 m, Western Deep Levels holds the record for the world's deepest gold mine.

Fochville is a farming and mining town located in the Gauteng province of South Africa. It is part of the Merafong City Local Municipality, which also includes Kokosi, Carletonville and Khutsong. The area surrounding Fochville contains Sotho or Tswana ruins. Tlokwe Ruins are the remains of Sotho-Tswana settlements on the hills surrounding Fochville that were inhabited until the 1820s. Boer War hero Danie Theron was killed 5 km north of the town. The town itself was established as an agricultural centre in 1920 and was named after the World War I commander-in-chief of the Allied forces in France, Marshal of France Ferdinand Foch.

Carletonville is a ghost town in Chippewa County, Michigan. It was founded in 1853 by Guy H. Carleton around a sawmill but never took off and did not last long.

The R500 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It begins just west of Magaliesburg and runs roughly north-south. Although it starts in North West it soon enters Gauteng province. First it crosses the N14, before it meets the western end of the R41. From there, it runs through Carletonville, where it intersects with the R501. Continuing south, it crosses the N12 and runs through Fochville. The road then intersects the R54 passing back into the North West province before crossing the Vaal river and reaches its southern terminus at the R59 and R53 in the town of Parys in the Free State.

The R501 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It begins just west of the R28 in Gauteng province and initially runs east-west. The first town it comes to is Carletonville where it intersects with the R500. After exiting the town, it crosses into the North West, and gradually turns into a more southernly direction, to reach Potchefstroom to the south-west. In Potchefstroom, it is briefly co-signed with the R53 and crosses the N12. It leaves the city in a south-south-westerly direction, crossing the Vaal River into the Free State. It ends at an intersection with the R59 near Viljoenskroon.
