The Co-Cathedral of the Holy Cross [1] (Croatian : Konkatedrala sv. Križa) also called Križevci Co-Cathedral, is a Catholic church located in Križevci, Croatia, [2] and is the co-cathedral of the Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci.
Croatian is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian language used by Croats, principally in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian province of Vojvodina and other neighboring countries. It is the official and literary standard of Croatia and one of the official languages of the European Union. Croatian is also one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a recognized minority language in Serbia and neighboring countries.
Križevci is a town in central Croatia with a total population of 21,122 and with 11,231 in the city itself (2011), the oldest town in its county, the Koprivnica-Križevci County.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci is a diocese in the Ecclesiastical province of Zagreb in Croatia. On December 5, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI erected the Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Zagreb. On the same day the Pope erected the new Diocese of Sisak, also in Croatia and within the Ecclesiastical province of Zagreb.
The church is mentioned in written sources as early as 1232. The church was rebuilt over the centuries. In its initial stage is the portal of the fourteenth century and the present appearance in the Gothic style of the fifteenth century. Are noticeable late, Renaissance Gothic in the belfry and facade of the sixteenth century and Baroque style, on the ship. The church was completely restored in 1913 by architect Stephen Podhorski.
On December 5, 2009, with the establishment of the Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci, the church was elevated to the status of co-cathedral, under the Bull "De maiore spirituali bono" of Pope Benedict XVI.
