John Carruthers (25 October 1863 25 December 1949) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada.

Career

He was elected to Parliament at the Algoma East riding in the 1921 general election, defeating the Conservative incumbent George Nicholson. After serving his only term, the 14th Canadian Parliament, Carruthers was defeated by Nicholson in the 1925 federal election.

Algoma East was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1968. It was created in 1903 from parts of Algoma riding.

George Brecken Nicholson was a Canadian businessman and politician. Nicholson served as a Conservative and Unionist member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Crapaud, Prince Edward Island and became a lumber merchant.
