A governor in Pakistan is the appointed head of state of a province, appointed by the president of Pakistan on the advice of the prime minister. Articles 101 to 105 of the Constitution of Pakistan deal with the appointment, conditions, and duties of a governor. [1]

A governor should be eligible to be elected as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, and should be at least 35 years old. They should also be a registered voter of the concerned province, and should not hold any office of profit. The chief justice of the concerned province's High Court administers the oath of office, after which the governor is not eligible for the election as a member of the Parliament of Pakistan and the Provincial Assemblies as long as they are in office.

In case of a governor's absence, the speaker of the Provincial Assembly becomes the acting governor of the province. [2]

The government includes the cabinet, selected from members the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and the non-political civil staff within each department. The province is governed by a unicameral legislature with the head of government known as the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister, invariably the leader of a political party represented in the Assembly, selects members of the Cabinet. The Chief Minister and Cabinet are thus responsible the functioning of government and are entitled to remain in office so long as it maintains the confidence of the elected Assembly. The head of the province is known as the Governor, appointed by the federal government, on behalf of the President, while the administrative boss of the province is Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, was the 20th governor of Balochistan Province since 28 February 2008 to 9 June 2013 as well as the chief executive of Balochistan since 14 January 2013. He is the Nawab and Tumandar of the Magsi Tribe, a former governor and a former chief executive of Balochistan, a senior politician and the former chief minister of Balochistan province in the Benazir Bhutto government of 1993–1996. Nawab was appointed as the chief executive of Balochistan on 13 January 2013 after the sacking of Aslam Raisani's unpopular government and imposition of Governor's Rule. It was the main after effect of the January 2013 Pakistan bombings. Nawab Magsi did his schooling from Aitchison College, Lahore. He first came to politics in 1977, when he won as an independent candidate seat from his native constituency in the provincial assembly. However, his family was involved in Balochistan politics before Pakistani independence. He served in many provincial ministries and also worked in the Home Ministry in the 1990s. In 1993, his coalition won majority of seats and he became Chief Minister of Balochistan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Governor of Balochistan, Pakistan</span>

The Governor of Balochistan is the head of the province of Balochistan, Pakistan. The post was established on 1 July 1970, after the dissolution of West Pakistan province and the end of One Unit. Under Pakistan's current parliamentary system, the governorship is a ceremonial position, as a symbol of the federation. The governor is appointed by the centre, whereas the principal head of the provincial government remains the elected Chief Minister of Balochistan.

The governor of Gilgit Baltistan is the appointed head of state of the provincial government in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The governor is designated by the prime minister of Pakistan and is normally regarded a ceremonial post. However, throughout the history of Pakistan, the powers of the provincial governors were vastly increased, every time the provincial assemblies were dissolved and the administrative role came under direct control of the governors.
