Mint is an Indian business and financial daily newspaper published by HT Media, a Delhi-based media group which is controlled by the K. K. Birla family that also publishes Hindustan Times . [2] Published since 2007, it is a newspaper that specialises in business and politics. [3]

Contents

It publishes a single national edition distributed in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. Unlike most mainstream newspapers from India, Mint is not published on Sunday. Every Saturday, it prints its sister magazine, Mint Lounge.

It is India's first newspaper to be published in the Berliner format. The former editor of the Wall Street Journal India , Raju Narisetti ran mint from its founding in 2007 to 2008. [4] Narisetti was succeeded by Sukumar Ranganathan, who served as editor until 2017. [5]

In 2014, Mint and the Journal ended their seven-year editorial partnership. [6] The companies now have a content syndication agreement as well as a subscriptions bundle.

In 2017, former editor of Khaleej Times Vinay Kamat was appointed as Editor, replacing Sukumar Ranganathan. [7] [8]

In November 2020, Sruthijith Kurupichankandy, better known as SK, was appointed Editor-in-chief. [9]

History

Launch

Mint began in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal on 1 February 2007, with the Journal's former deputy managing editor, Raju Narisetti as its founding editor. [10]

Relaunch

In 2016, Mint changed from the Berliner format it popularised in India and became a broadsheet. Mint also publishes Mint Lounge as a Saturday cultural edition. [11]

Website

After struggling in the initial years, the Livemint website is now the second most read business news website in India, behind The Economic Times . [12] After HT Media Limited acquired VCCircle from News Corp in 2020, the Livemint website also shares content with the VCCircle and TechCircle websites. The three websites have sort of become one product, though they still operate independently as well.[ clarification needed ] The Deals, Tech and Startups page on the Mint newspaper routinely gets content from both VCCircle and TechCircle. The Radia tapes controversy relates to the telephonic conversations between Niira Radia, a political lobbyist in India, the (then) Indian telecom minister A. Raja, and senior journalists, politicians, and corporate houses, taped by the Indian Income Tax Department in 2008–09. The tapes were leaked out to the press, and were eventually published by some media outlets and shown by television channels.

The National Herald is an Indian newspaper published by The Associated Journals Ltd and owned by Young India Limited a company by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and Shiva Publications a partnership firm by Vishnu Goyal & Rekha Goyal. It was founded by India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938 as a tool to win independence. It was banned by British government in 1942 during the Quit India movement. It was one of the major English language newspapers in India after the end of the British Raj, and occasionally published op-eds authored by Nehru. The newspaper ceased operations in 2008 for financial reasons. In 2016, it was relaunched as a digital publication. The newspaper has been linked to and controlled by members of the Indian National Congress political party.

VCCircle, founded in 2005, is an Indian information services group with presence in online business news, data, events and training for private equity and venture capital fund managers, entrepreneurs, investment bankers, corporate executives and lawyers. It currently employs about 100 people and is owned by the New Delhi-headquartered Mosaic Media Ventures Private Limited with offices in Okhla in Delhi-National Capital Region, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The company was acquired in 2015 by News Corp, and later by HT Media Limited in 2020. Leslie D'Monte joined as the Executive Editor of VCCircle and TechCircle in August, 2021.

Tamal Bandyopadhyay is an Indian business journalist, known for his weekly column on banking and finance Banker's Trust published in Business Standard, a leading Indian business daily. He had started this column in Mint, an Indian business daily by HT Media Ltd.

Melissa Bell is an American journalist and technologist. She helped launch the Indian business newspaper Mint, and held several positions at The Washington Post, starting in 2010. She and Ezra Klein left the newspaper to co-found the news and opinion website Vox with Matthew Yglesias in 2014. Bell was named vice president of growth and analytics for Vox Media in 2015, and has been the company's publisher since 2016.

The corporation was established in June 2008 by Yashish Dahiya, Alok Bansal and Avaneesh Nirjar. Navjivan India is an Indian newspaper published by The Associated Journals Ltd who have been publishing the daily Navjivan since 1 November 1947. Prior to this, a newspaper called Navjivan was published by Indian activist and leader Mahatma Gandhi, and The Associate Journals started publishing Navjivan with his permission.
