The Cardiff Roller Collective (CRoC) are a roller sports league based in Cardiff, Wales. Founded in 2010, the league has three roller derby, one roller hockey team, and an artistic skating group.

Cardiff City & County in Wales

Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and its largest city. The eleventh-largest city in the United Kingdom, it is Wales's chief commercial centre, the base for most national cultural institutions and Welsh media, and the seat of the National Assembly for Wales. At the 2011 census, the unitary authority area population was estimated to be 346,090, and the wider urban area 479,000. Cardiff is a significant tourist centre and the most popular visitor destination in Wales with 21.3 million visitors in 2017. In 2011, Cardiff was ranked sixth in the world in National Geographic's alternative tourist destinations.

Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain. It is bordered by England to the east, the Irish Sea to the north and west, and the Bristol Channel to the south. It had a population in 2011 of 3,063,456 and has a total area of 20,779 km2 (8,023 sq mi). Wales has over 1,680 miles (2,700 km) of coastline and is largely mountainous, with its higher peaks in the north and central areas, including Snowdon, its highest summit. The country lies within the north temperate zone and has a changeable, maritime climate.

Roller derby contact sport

Roller derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating counter-clockwise around a track. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly inside the United States.

Founded in October 2010, [1] It initially had two teams, the Raiders of Roath Park and the Roathmantics; [2] these were subsequently rearranged. The Collective was also joined by the Bridgend Bombshells, which had been founded in 2009. The Bombshells were based at the Bridgend Recreation Centre, in a town near Cardiff, although this was set for closure at the end of 2011. [3]

Bridgend town in Wales

Bridgend is a town in Bridgend County Borough in Wales, 20 miles (32 km) west of the capital Cardiff and 20 miles (32 km) east of Swansea. The river crossed by the original bridge, which gave the town its name, is the River Ogmore, but the River Ewenny also passes to the south of the town.

By late 2011, CRoC had launched roller hockey and artistic roller skating groups, and its membership exceeded seventy people. [4]

CRoC became members of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association in May 2012. [5]

The United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) is the National Association for roller derby in the UK. The association was formed in 2010 with 15 member leagues, and was recognized by the British Roller Sports Federation soon after.

Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls is a women's flat track roller derby league, based in Lincoln, England. Lincolnshire is a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), and follows the WFTDA ruleset.

Canberra Roller Derby League

The Canberra Roller Derby League (CRDL) is a Canberra-based all-women's roller derby league. It was created in 2008, with the first bouts occurring in 2009. Skaters joined the league during "Fresh Meat" and "Boot Camp" intakes, where they learn skating and derby skills before appearing in bouts nine to twelve months later. Canberra currently holds the Division 1 trophy for The Great Southern Slam. Canberra is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

Tiger Bay Brawlers

Tiger Bay Brawlers (TBB) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Cardiff, Wales. Founded in April 2010, the league has two teams that compete against teams from other leagues. Tiger Bay is a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

By September 2011, there were more than 1,000 amateur roller derby leagues, covering every inhabited continent, with teams in countries such as Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Sweden and Singapore In the UK, the sport is mostly played by women.


Skate Australia is the governing body for roller sports in Australia and all skating-based sports disciplines within Australia, working in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and State Skating Associations.

Newcastle Roller Derby League

Newcastle Roller Derby League (NRDL) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in the city of Newcastle, New South Wales founded in 2009. Their representative team is called the Dockyard Dames while their three local teams are the Harbour Hellcats, the Fort Smashleys and the Bogey Rollers, which was formed at the start of 2013.

Leeds Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Leeds, England. Founded in 2007, the league has two travel teams which play against teams from other leagues across Europe. Leeds Roller Derby is a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

The Silicon Valley Roller Girls (SVRG) roller derby league is based in San Jose, California. Founded in 2007, the league currently consists of three teams which compete against teams from other leagues.

Pacific Roller Derby (PRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 2008, the league consists of a single team that plays teams from other leagues. Pacific is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

Akron Roller Derby

Akron Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Akron, Ohio. Two separate Akron-based leagues, NEO Roller Derby and Rubber City Rollergirls, merged in November 2016 to become Akron Roller Derby. The league consists of two teams which compete against teams from other leagues, and is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

From January 2013 the league pared back to two teams, an A- and B-level travel team known as the Steel City Derby Dolls.

Okinawa Roller Derby

Okinawa Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Okinawa, Japan. Founded in 2010, the league currently consists of two teams, an all star team which competes worldwide and a B team which competes against teams from other leagues in Japan. Okinawa Roller Derby is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
