Arizona State University is a public research university in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Founded in 1885 by the 13th Arizona Territorial Legislature, ASU is one of the largest public universities by enrollment in the U.S.
Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is the most populous city in the East Valley section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is bordered by Tempe on the west, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on the north, Chandler and Gilbert on the south along with Queen Creek, and Apache Junction on the east.
Willis Eugene Lamb Jr. was an American physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1955 "for his discoveries concerning the fine structure of the hydrogen spectrum." The Nobel Committee that year awarded half the prize to Lamb and the other half to Polykarp Kusch, who won "for his precision determination of the magnetic moment of the electron." Lamb was able to determine precisely a surprising shift in electron energies in a hydrogen atom. Lamb was a professor at the University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences.
Charles Edward Borah was an American athlete, winner of gold medal in 4 × 100 m relay at the 1928 Summer Olympics.
The 2nd Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on April 3, 1930, at an awards banquet in the Cocoanut Grove of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, honored the best films released between August 1, 1928, and July 31, 1929. This was the first Academy Awards ceremony broadcast on radio, by local station KNX, Los Angeles.
Steven Ontiveros is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball. From 1985 through 2000, Ontiveros played for the Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies (1989–90), Seattle Mariners (1993) and Boston Red Sox (2000). He batted and threw right-handed. He attended the University of Michigan where he gained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.
Chinlea is an extinct genus of Triassic mawsoniid coelacanth fish found in and named after the Chinle Formation that crops out in the southwestern states of Arizona and New Mexico. The length of Chinlea was about 80 centimetres (2.6 ft). Chinlea had lobed fins and a slender tail. The teeth were large and sharp.

Whitney Myers Burnett is an American former competition swimmer. She swam for the University of Arizona. She won a gold medal at the 2006 Pan-Pacific championships in Victoria, British Columbia, in the 200-meter individual medley, just out-touching teammate Katie Hoff.

It is the second full-time Islamic school in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, and as of 2007, has the highest enrollment figure among Islamic schools in Arizona. It is also the only Islamic school with a comprehensive K–12 program, the first graduates graduating in the Spring of 2006.
William Austin Lyon was an American film editor, from 1935 to 1971. He was born in Texas, and died in Los Angeles, California. Employed by Columbia Pictures for most of his career, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing six times, and won twice, for From Here to Eternity (1953) and Picnic (1955).

The Gulf Coast League (GCL) Royals were a minor league baseball franchise in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League from 1971–1978, 1982–1983 and 1985–2002. The club was owned and operated by the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball. The GCL Royals played games at Florida-based minor league and spring training facilities located in Sarasota, Baseball City Stadium in Davenport and Fort Myers (1993–1998).

He played college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats before being drafted sixth overall in the 2022 NBA draft by the Pacers. He was named a consensus second-team All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year after his sophomore season.
Gene Francis Warren Jr. was an American visual effects artist. He won an Academy Award in the category Best Visual Effects for the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Warren died in November 2019 at his home in Hollywood Hills, California, at the age of 78.
