geoDefense is a 2008 tower defense game created for iOS devices developed by American studio Critical Thought Games. A sequel, geoDefense Swarm , was released on September 14, 2009, and was listed by Time magazine as one of the best games of the year. [1] An Xbox Live enabled version was released for Windows Phone on June 8, 2011. As of the release of iPhone iOS 11, the game was removed from the App Store because of incompatibility.

Tower defense (TD) is a subgenre of strategy video game where the goal is to defend a player's territories or possessions by obstructing the enemy attackers, usually achieved by placing defensive structures on or along their path of attack. This typically means building a variety of different structures that serve to automatically block, impede, attack or destroy enemies. Tower defense is seen as a subgenre of real-time strategy video games, due to its real-time origins, though many modern tower defense games include aspects of turn-based strategy. Strategic choice and positioning of defensive elements is an essential strategy of the genre.

Gameplay

geoDefense follows the gameplay structure of typical tower defense games. Enemies (called Creeps) move towards the player's lives and towers must be placed around the map to appropriately prevent and destroy their progress. Gameplay takes place on a vector display-like field with a preset path leading from where the Creeps enter the field to the player's lives. Levels are in the form of these paths with varying limits on tower prices, enemy occurrences and lives.

Asher Vollmer American indie video game developer

Asher Vollmer is an American indie video game developer and creator of Puzzlejuice and Threes. He created the 2012 iOS game Puzzlejuice while a student at USC Interactive Media & Games Division. The game began his collaboration with Greg Wohlwend. The pair's next release, the 2014 iOS puzzle game Threes, received what review aggregator Metacritic described as "universal acclaim", including perfect scores from Eurogamer and TouchArcade, and the title of Apple Inc.'s iPhone game of the year. The game was later ported to multiple platforms. Polygon included Vollmer in their "50 admirable gaming people" of the year for his work on Threes. Among other projects, Vollmer subsequently worked on Close Castles, a real-time strategy game later put on hiatus, and Royals, a simulation game for OS X and Windows.

Sentinel: Mars Defense is an iOS sci-fi tower defense game developed by British indie studio Origin8 Technologies and released on February 27, 2009. It was followed by the sequels Sentinel 2: Earth Defense (2009), Sentinel 3: Homeworld (2010), and Sentinel 4: Dark Star (2014).

<i>Steven Universe: Attack the Light</i> tactical role-playing video game

Steven Universe: Attack the Light is a role-playing video game developed by Grumpyface Studios and published by Cartoon Network Games. The game, based on the animated TV series Steven Universe and featuring a story written by series creator Rebecca Sugar, was released for iOS and Android mobile devices on April 2, 2015. An Apple TV/tvOS version was later developed, which added "Diamond Mode", a higher-difficulty version of the game with added bonuses.

Strikefleet Omega is a hybrid tower defense and real-time strategy video game for iOS, Android, and Fire OS. The player is put in control a small fleet of human ships, the titular Strikefleet Omega, in a series of battles against a race of aliens that have destroyed the Earth. The player must defend their large, immobile ships by dispatching groups of smaller space fighters to fend off alien ships approaching from all directions. In later stages of the game, additional types of fighter and additional weapons become available.
