Rust defeated Elizabethtown in the championship game, 51–49, to claim the Bearcats' first Division III national title.

The Saint John's (MN) Johnnies won second Division III championship by defeating the three-time defending national champion Mount Union Purple Raiders, 24−6.

The 1983 NCAA Division III baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1983 NCAA Division III baseball season to determine the eighth national champion of college baseball at the NCAA Division III level. The tournament concluded with six teams competing at Pioneer Park in Marietta, Ohio, for the championship. Six regional tournaments were held to determine the participants in the World Series. Regional tournaments were contested in double-elimination format, with one region consisting of six teams, four regions consisting of four teams, and one region consisting of two teams, which was played as best-of-five, for a total of 24 teams participating in the tournament. The tournament champion was Marietta, who defeated Otterbein for the championship.

Lynne Agee is a retired women's college basketball coach. Agee started her coaching career with William Fleming High School, where she had 94 wins and 16 losses from 1971 to 1978. With the Roanoke Lady Maroons from 1978 to 1981, Agee had 46 wins and 23 losses. Her team also made it to the first round of the 1981 AIAW women's basketball tournament for Division III. With the UNC Greensboro Spartans women's basketball team from 1981 to 2011, Agee was the university's coach in Division III, Division II and Division I basketball.
