The Asian Men's Volleyball Championship was the eleventh staging of the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with Korea Volleyball Association (KVA). The tournament was held in Changwon, South Korea from 8 to 16 September 2001.

The 2001 AVC Cup Men's Club Tournament was the 3rd staging of the AVC Club Championships. The tournament was held in Shehong, China. Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance of Korea won the tournament after beating Suntory Sunbirds of Japan.

The national team's best performance at the Olympic Games was 5th place at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, California, United States. South Korea participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. It was the 18th appearance of the country at the Asian Games, except the first edition in Delhi. As one of the best competitors at the Games, South Korea's best achievement was in the 2002 Busan, with the acquisition of 96 gold, 80 silver and 84 bronze medals. At the latest edition in 2014 Incheon, the country had collected 79 gold, 71 silver, and 84 bronze medals.
