By naming the race Rás Tailteann the original organisers, members of the National Cycling Association (NCA), were associating the cycle race with the Tailteann Games, a Gaelic festival in early medieval Ireland.

The Classic Brugge-De Panne is a road cycling race in Belgium in late March. Since 2018 it is raced over two days with a men's race on Wednesday and a women's race on Thursday. Both races start in Bruges and finish in the seaside resort of De Panne.

In 2009 a number of prominent riders returned to professional cycling. Ivan Basso, Floyd Landis and Michele Scarponi had finished a suspension. Bjorn Leukemans was without a team for over a year due to doping-related allegations, which were proven to be ungrounded. Most notably, seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong returned after a three-and-half year break, starting his season as a Astana-rider in the Tour Down Under.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">UCI World Tour</span>

The UCI WorldTour is the premier men's elite road cycling tour, sitting above the UCI ProSeries and various regional UCI Continental Circuits. It refers to both the tour of 38 events and, until 2019, an annual ranking system based upon performances in these. The World Ranking was launched in 2009, and merged fully with its predecessor the UCI ProTour in 2011. UCI WorldTeams must compete at all events that were part of the tour prior to the 2017 expansion.

RideLondon is an annual festival of cycling held in London. Intended as an annual legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it was first held in 2013. The format consists of a series of cycling events on closed roads around London and Essex for amateur and professional cyclists.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">UCI Men's road racing world ranking</span>

The UCI men's road racing world rankings are a point system which is used to rank men's road cycling riders. Points are accrued over a rolling 52 weeks in three categories.

The UCI Women's Road Rankings is a system of ranking road bicycle racers based upon the results in all women's UCI-sanctioned races over a twelve-month period. The world rankings were first instituted by the UCI in 1994. Points are awarded according to finishing positions in each race, with lesser points for each stage of stage races and for wearing the race leader's jersey. The road races at the Olympics and Road World Championships are worth the most points. The team rankings are calculated by summing the points of the team's four best placed riders, and the national rankings by summing the points of the nation's five best placed riders.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">UCI Women's World Tour</span> Premier annual female elite road cycling tour

The UCI Women's World Tour is the premier annual female elite road cycling tour.

The UCI 1.HC and UCI 2.HC are the second tier classification of road cycling races by the UCI, after the UCI World Tour. The races are part of the various UCI Continental Circuits. The 1.HC events are one-day races, whereas the 2.HC events are stage races. 'HC' stands for the French phrase hors catégorie, which means beyond categorization. In 2020, the .HC races will be replaced by the UCI ProSeries

The 2019 UCI Oceania Tour was the 15th season of the UCI Oceania Tour. The season began on 19 January 2018 with the Gravel and Tar and finished on 17 March 2019 with the Continental Championships.

The UCI ProSeries is the second tier men's elite road cycling tour. It was inaugurated in 2020. The series is placed below the UCI World Tour, but above the various regional UCI Continental Circuits.

The 2022 UCI Africa Tour was the 18th season of the UCI Africa Tour. The season began on 29 October 2021 with the Tour du Faso and ended on 8 October 2022.
