The 2006 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships is the 11th such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It took place between July 10 and July 16, 2006.

Contents

The preliminary round was played in four groups (A-D) with four teams each. The groups A and B form Pool A, the groups C and D form Pool B.

The two last-placed teams of the groups A and B and the two first-placed teams of the groups C and D play for fourth place in group A and B to participate in the Play-Offs of Pool A. The losers of the games between fourth A and first C, fourth B and first D play as first place in group C and D to participate in the Play-Offs of Pool B. The ranking of the groups is based according to the result of the last World Championships' performance of the respective countries in the IIHF Inline Hockey Program and the qualification rounds.

Home team Finland was the winner, defeating Russia 2–1 in the gold medal game, thanks to the goaltending of Mika Noronen and the overtime heroics of Niklas Hagman. Switzerland defeated the Czech Republic 4–3 to capture the bronze medal, their first and only medal in the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship.

The 1987 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 52nd such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was also the 63rd European Championships. Teams representing 28 countries participated in four levels of competition.

The 1997 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships were held in Geneva and Morges, Switzerland. The tournament was won by Canada, who won their record fifth-straight gold medal with a 2–0 victory over the United States in the gold-medal match. Mike York of the United States was the top scorer in the tournament, with five goals and five assists for ten points.

The tournament was won by Canada—defeating Sweden 4–1 in the gold-medal game—earning Canada their fourth straight gold medal and ninth overall, tying the Soviet team's record in both regards.

The tournament was won by Slovenia who upon winning gained promotion to the 2019 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship. While New Zealand and Brazil were relegated to the Qualifications after losing their placement round games along with Hungary who lost the relegation game against Argentina.
