The 2023-24 ISU Speed Skating World Cup is an international level speed skating tournament. The season consists of 6 events, and will begin on 10 November 2023 in Obihiro, Japan and will end on 4 February 2024 in Quebec City, Canada. [1] The World Cup is organised by the ISU who also runs world cups and championships in short track speed skating and figure skating.

Short-track speed skating is a form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions, multiple skaters skate on an oval ice track with a length of 111.111 metres (364.54 ft). The rink itself is 60 metres (196.85 ft) long by 30 metres (98.43 ft) wide, which is the same size as an Olympic-sized figure skating rink and an international-sized ice hockey rink. The World Short Track Speed Skating Championships are a senior international short track speed skating competition held once a year to determine the World Champion in individual distances, relays and Overall Classification. It is sanctioned by the International Skating Union and is usually held in March or April.

The figure skating season is the period of time in which competitions are contested in the sport of figure skating. The skating season begins on July 1 of one year and lasts until June 30 of the next year, thus spanning a full 12 months. The seasons are referred to by the years they span; for example, the 2017–18 figure skating season began in July 2017 and ended in June 2018.

The 2013 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships took place between 21 and 24 March 2013 in the Adler Arena, Sochi, Russia. It was a test event for the 2014 Olympic Games.

The 2013–14 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. The season began on 28 September 2013 and ended on 17 November 2013. The World Cup was organised by the ISU who also run world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating. The 3rd and 4th legs of the world cup, held in Turin and Kolomna, acted as qualifying events for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Patrick Roest is a Dutch professional long track speed skater who has won the World Allround Speed Skating Championships three times. He leads the adelskalender, an all-time ranking of skaters' personal bests. He is a member of the commercial team of Team Reggeborgh.

The 2020–21 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating was a series of senior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union that were held from October 2020 through December 2020. Medals were awarded in men's singles, ladies's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Before modifications resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, skaters would have earned points based on their placement at each event and the top six in each discipline would have qualified to compete at the Grand Prix Final in Beijing, China. Because of the pandemic, only four of the six events were held, while the Grand Prix Final also ultimately cancelled. The corresponding series for junior-level skaters would have been the 2020–21 ISU Junior Grand Prix, but the ISU announced its cancellation in July 2020.

The 2020–21 ISU Challenger Series was scheduled to be held from September 9 to December 5, 2020. It was the seventh season that the ISU Challenger Series, a group of senior-level international figure skating competitions, was held. Originally meant to be a series of ten events, the 2020–21 Challenger Series ended up featuring only two individual events, when eight events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020–21 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was planned to be a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ISU did not manage to organize the competitions.

The 2021 World Junior Figure Skating Championships were scheduled to be held from March 1–7, 2021 in Harbin, China. Figure skaters would have competed for the title of junior world champion in men's singles, ladies' singles, pairs, and ice dance. The competition would have determined the entry quotas for each federation during the 2021–22 ISU Junior Grand Prix series and at the 2022 World Junior Championships.

The 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships were scheduled be held on February 8–14, 2021 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. Medals were to be awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance on the senior and junior levels. Although the official International Skating Union terminology for female skaters in the singles category is ladies, Skate Canada uses women officially. The results were supposed to be part of the Canadian selection criteria for the 2021 World Championships.
