The Ministry of National Defence, alternatively the Ministry of Defence (MoD), fully the Ministry of Defence of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is the governmental ministry of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam that manages, coordinates and supervises military affairs, including all military units, paramilitary units, and similar agencies in the country. The major office of the Ministry of National Defence is located within the ancient Hanoi Citadel. The ministry is operated in compliance with the Constitution and Laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, ideologically under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the unified State management of the Vietnamese Government. It runs the People's Army Newspaper and the Military Broadcasting Center together with the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Besides press and media agencies, the Ministry of National Defence also owns and administers a number of enterprises, noticeably the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group besides many core businesses of the Vietnamese defence industry.

1st Corps or Quyết thắng Corps was a regular army corps of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). First organised in 1973 during the Vietnam War, 1st Corps had a major role in the 1975 spring offensive that ended the war. Before disbanded on 21 November 2023, the corps was stationed in Tam Điệp, Ninh Bình.

2nd Corps or Hương Giang Corps was a regular army corps of the Vietnam People's Army. First organised in 1974 during the Vietnam War, 2nd Corps had a major role in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign that ended the war. Before disbanded on 21 November 2023, the corps was stationed in Lạng Giang District, Bắc Giang.

4th Corps or Cửu Long Corps is one of the three regular army corps of the People's Army of Vietnam. First organized in 1974 during the Vietnam War, 4th Corps had a major role in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign and the Cambodian–Vietnamese War. Today the corps is stationed in Dĩ An, Bình Dương.

1st Military Region of Vietnam People's Army, founded in 1945, is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and commander fights against foreign invaders to protect the North East of Vietnam. The north-east region of Vietnam, borders with the Guangxi of China. In 1979, Chinese army with 5 infantry corps, 17 infantry divisions, launched a huge invasion in this military zone, occupied the Lạng Sơn and Cao Bằng. The headquarters of the 1st Military Zone is in Thái Nguyên.

The 2nd Military Region of the Vietnam People's Army, is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and commander armed forces defending the North West of Vietnam. The north-West region of Vietnam, borders with the Yunnan of China. In 1979, the Chinese army with 3 infantry corps, and 10 infantry divisions, launched a huge invasion in this military zone and occupied Lào Cai Province and Phong Thổ.

The 3rd Military Region of Vietnam People's Army is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and command armed forces defending the Red River Delta. The north-West region of Vietnam borders with the Guangxi, China. In 1979, Chinese army with one infantry division, launched an invasion in this military zone.

The 4th Military Region of Vietnam People's Army, is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and command armed forces defending the North Central Vietnam. The predecessor, 4th War Zone was established by the order of Ho Chi Minh on 15 October 1945, and this day has become the traditional day of the Military Zone. On 3 June 1957, Ho Chi Minh signed the ordinance 17/SL to establish 4th Military Zones on the basis of 4th Joint Zone, simultaneously with other military zones: the North Vietnamese, North West, North East, Left Bank, Right Bank.

The 5th Military Region of Vietnam People's Army, is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and command armed forces defending the South Central Vietnam include the Tây Nguyên and southern central coastal provinces.

The 7th Military Region of Vietnam People's Army, is directly under the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and command armed forces defending the South East Vietnam.

The Hanoi Capital Command of the People's Army of Vietnam, is directly under the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam, tasked to organise, build, manage and command armed forces defending Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nùng Autonomous Territory</span> Historical territory in Northern Vietnam

The Nùng Autonomous Territory, also known as the Hải Ninh Autonomous Territory, the Nùng Hải Ninh Autonomous Territory, and the Nùng country, abbreviated as TAN, was an autonomous territory for the Chinese Nùng within the French Union created during the First Indochina War by the French colonial government in Indochina. During this period the French hoped to weaken the position of the Việt Minh by granting more autonomy to ethnic minorities in Vietnam in the hopes of getting more support from them in their fight against the predominantly Kinh Việt Minh, which took control of large parts of Vietnam following the August Revolution and the power vacuum that occurred following the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II.

The 4th Regional Command under the Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) is the naval operations command that independently manages and protects the Spratly Islands, Phú Quý Island, South China Sea and the South Central Coast, from Phú Yên to the North Bình Thuận including the provinces: Phú Yên, Khánh Hòa, Ninh Thuận and the North of Bình Thuận. Its headquarter is in the Cam Ranh Bay Navy Base.
