The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism was a department of the government of South Africa from 1994 to 2009.

A ministry is a governmental organisation, headed by a minister, that is meant to manage a specific sector of public administration. Governments may have differing numbers and types of ministries, but the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary notes that all states have a Ministry of Interior, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Ministry of Defense, a Ministry of Justice and a Ministry of Finance. The national, provincial and local levels of government all have legislative and executive authority in their own spheres, and are defined in the South African Constitution as "distinctive, interdependent and interrelated".

After the election of President Jacob Zuma in May 2009 the department was divided into the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Tourism.
