Kaunas County is one of ten counties of Lithuania. It is in the centre of the country, and its capital is Kaunas. On 1 July 2010, the county administration was abolished.

The seat of the municipality is the city of Kaunas, which does not belong to the municipality but is a separate administrative unit. It surrounds the Kaunas City Municipality from the north, west and south, while in the east Kaunas district municipality borders Kaišiadorys District Municipality. Kaunas District Municipality has the second largest international airport in Lithuania, and is well connected by major roads, as well as railways with other cities of Lithuania.

Kaunas Synagogue is one of two operating choral synagogues in Lithuania. It is located in Centras eldership, Kaunas. The Neo-Baroque synagogue was built in 1872. In 1902, before the Holocaust in Lithuania, it was one of over 25 synagogues and Jewish prayer houses in the city. The radically designed synagogue claims to have one of the most beautiful arks in the entire Jewish world.
The Kaunas pogrom was a massacre of Jews living in Kaunas, Lithuania, that took place on 25–29 June 1941; the first days of Operation Barbarossa and the Nazi occupation of Lithuania. The most infamous incident occurred at the garage of NKVD Kaunas section, a nationalized garage of Lietūkis, an event known as the Lietūkis Garage Massacre. There several dozen Jewish men, allegedly associates of NKVD, were publicly tortured and executed on 27 June in front of a crowd of Lithuanian men, women and children. The incident was documented by a German soldier who photographed the event as a man, nicknamed the "Death Dealer", beat each man to death with a metal bar. After June, systematic executions took place at various forts of the Kaunas Fortress, especially the Seventh and Ninth Fort.
Panemunė Eldership is an eldership in Kaunas County, Lithuania, encompassing Kaunas neighbourhoods of Panemunė, Vaišvydava, Vičiūnai, and the village of Rokai. Located on the left bank of the Nemunas River, it was formally incorporated into Kaunas in 1931. It occupies 24.78 hectares with 22,140 inhabitants.
Šančiai is an elderate in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas. It is located on the meandering right bank of the Nemunas River. Šančiai itself are divided into Žemieji Šančiai and Aukštieji Šančiai neighborhoods. Names come from their adjacent locations. Žemieji Šančiai is located on the Nemunas river valley, while Aukštieji Šančiai is located on the hill above the valley. Its entire elderate population of 2007 was 23,237.
Šilainiai is a neighborhood in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas, consisting of mostly Soviet-built microdistricts completed in the 1980s. Part of larger Šilainiai elderate which is one of the largest elderates in the city, consisting of Milikoniai, Sargėnai, Šilainiai, Vytėnai and Romainiai neighborhoods, covering 25 km2 and housing over 55,000 people as of 2021. Ąžuolynas is a public park in Lithuania's second largest city, Kaunas, in the Žaliakalnis elderate. The park covers about 84 hectares and is the largest urban stand of mature oaks in Europe. Vydūnas Alley serves as the park's northern border. It is a popular recreational destination for the inhabitants of Kaunas. Most of its trees are oaks ranging in age from 100 to 320 years old, but it also holds linden, birch, and maple trees.

Radio station was available via analogue 93,6 MHz FM frequency in Kaunas city and on the internet. Kaunas Prison is a prison in the center of Kaunas, second largest city of Lithuania. As of 2007, it houses approximately 300 prisoners and employs around 230 prison guards. Most prisoners are there under temporary arrest awaiting court decisions or transfers to other detention facilities.
The Old Kaunas Ducal Palace is a building complex at the corner of Aleksoto and Muitinės Streets in Kaunas Old Town, Lithuania. It was a psychiatric hospital, but is now owned by the Kaunas Academy of Arts institute.
