Kristina Carlson (born 31 July 1949 in Helsinki), also known by her pen name Mari Lampinen, [1] is a Finnish novelist, poet and writer. [2]

Her novels include Maan ääreen, Herra Darwinin puutarhuri and William N. Päiväkirja. She has also written several books for young adults. Carlson lives in Helsinki.

MS <i>Bore</i>

MS Bore is a combination museum and hotel ship docked permanently in Turku, Finland. She was originally built in 1960 by Oskarshamn shipyard, Oskarshamn, Sweden as the car/passenger ferry SS Bore for Steamship Company Bore, Finland, then the last commercial steam ship built in Scandinavia and the first ferry on the route between Finland and Sweden where cars could drive aboard. She was later known as SS Borea, before being rebuilt as cruise ship in 1988. 1988 to 2010 she was owned by the Finnish shipping company Kristina Cruises and known as MS Kristina Regina until she was retired because she did not comply with new safety regulations.

Monika Kristina Fagerholm is a Swedish-speaking Finnish author living in Ekenäs, Finland. She is the daughter of professor Nils-Erik Fagerholm and library amanuensis Kristina Herrgård. Fagerholm has studied psychology and literature at the University of Helsinki. In 1987, she received her bachelor's degree in psychology and literature. Fagerholm made her debut in 1987 with Sham but her real breakthrough in the literary scene was in 1994 with Underbara kvinnor vid vatten. The book was nominated for the Finlandia Prize, which is the biggest literary prize in Finland. It was also nominated for the August prize in 1995, in Sweden and also the International Dublin Literary Award in 1998. In 1994, she received the Runeberg Award in Finland. The movie adaptation of the novel by Claes Olsson premiered in 1998. Fagerholm received the August prize in 2005 for Den amerikanska flickan.

Lampinen is a Finnish surname. As of 2013, there were almost 10,000 people registered in Finland with this surname. It is a derivation of the Finnish word "lampi", that also occurs as surname in Finland, and it means one who lives by a pond. As a surname it appears both as an old, traditional surname in Eastern Finland and as a new, recently adopted surname in Western Finland.
