Liam O'Brien (born 11 January 1980) is an Irish actor, most notable for his three years playing Ethan Blake on ITV's long-running soap Emmerdale. [1]

Born in Limerick, O'Brien founded Bottom Dog Theatre Company in 2008 with Myles Breen. [2] Following his role in Emmerdale, he joined the cast of Fair City as Paul Brennan. [3] In 2004, he appeared Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes. [4]

In the late Nineties and up to 2007, he worked and toured extensively with Limerick's Island Theatre Company with productions including Borrowed Robes, The Trickster, Our Town, The Taming of the Shrew, Mike Finn’s award-winning Pigtown and playing The Gentleman Caller in The Glass Menagerie. He also appeared in Amalgamotion Theatre Company’s Irish tour of Walking Away. Dublin Theatre roles include Paris in Romeo and Juliet, Cary Grant in Come Up and See Me Sometime. [5]

O'Brien holds a strong connection with crooning. [6] He played Dean Martin for over two years in the West End tour of The Rat Pack: Live From Las Vegas in the UK, Europe and US. [7] He regularly performs in the Savoy, Limerick. [8]

The Limerick Soviet was one of a number of self-declared Irish soviets that were formed around Ireland circa 1919. The Limerick Soviet existed for a two-week period from 15 to 27 April 1919. At the beginning of the Irish War of Independence, a general strike was organised by the Limerick Trades and Labour Council, as a protest against the British Army's declaration of a "Special Military Area" under the Defence of the Realm Act, which covered most of Limerick city and a part of the county. The soviet ran the city for the period, printed its own money and organised the supply of food. The Limerick Soviet was one of a number of Irish soviets declared between 1919 and 1923.

She co-hosts a monthly podcast, The Limerick Lady, with Emma Langford. It has included guests such as Denise Chaila, Sharon Slater, Amanda Palmer, and Pamela Connolly of the Pillow Queens. She also hosts a podcast, Ann and Steve Talk Stuff, with Stephen Kinsella.
