The Luxembourg national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of Luxembourg. It is controlled by the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Luxembourg is currently ranked 43rd in the IIHF World Rankings and competes at Division II of the IIHF World Championships. They won their first tournament in 2017 at the Division III level. [2]

History

Luxembourg joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 1912, though did not participate in the World Championship until 1992, when they placed fifth in Group C2, the lowest tier. They would not return to the tournament until 2000, though except for 2001 have been a regular participant since then. [2]

The team plays in the colours of the national flag: red, white, and light blue. The squad is coached by Petr Fical of Germany and captained by Ronny Scheier.[ citation needed ] Monique Scheier-Schneider served as the team's general manager from the 2005 to 2007 world championships. [3]

In the 2007 World Championships, Luxembourg finished third in Division III, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division II after being defeated 4–3 by hosts Ireland in overtime. Luxembourg has never competed in ice hockey at the Olympics. They placed third at the 2009 IIHF World Championship Division III in Dunedin, New Zealand. They won their first tournament in 2017 at the Division III level. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2010 IIHF World Championship Division III</span> Ice hockey tournament in Luxembourg and Armenia

The 2010 IIHF World Championship Division III was a pair of international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournaments were contested between 14 and 18 April 2010. For the first time, the IIHF allowed eight teams, rather than six, to compete in Division III, which was handled by separating the teams into two groups. Group A was played in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg, while Group B's games took place in Yerevan, Armenia. The process reverted to the single group of six teams the following year.

The Luxembourg men's national under 20 ice hockey team is the national under-20 ice hockey team of Luxembourg. The team is controlled by the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Australia women's national ice hockey team</span>

The Australian women's national ice hockey team represents Australia at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team is controlled by Ice Hockey Australia. As of 2011, Australia has 313 female players. Australia is ranked 30th out of 34 countries in the IIHF World Ranking. Kathy Berg took the team to its highest point, being ranked 20th. She was the longest serving coach. Richo Padjen took over and the team started slipping down the rankings and hadn't been able to recover its former glory. In September 2015, an announcement was made on the Ice Hockey Australia website that Canadian Lindsay McAlpine will be the new coach. Replacing Lee Brown. Lindsay McAlpine is expected to join the team for their first training camp in December.

The Australia men's national under-18 ice hockey team is controlled by Ice Hockey Australia and represents Australia in international under-18 ice hockey competitions. Australia plays in Division IIB of the IIHF World U18 Championships.

The Turkmenistan national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of Turkmenistan. The team is controlled by the Turkmenistan Ice Hockey Federation and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Turkmenistan is currently ranked 49th in the IIHF World Ranking and made its debut in the 2018 World Championship Division III Qualification tournament.

Monique Scheier-Schneider is a Luxembourg ice hockey administrator. She has served as president of Tornado Luxembourg and negotiated the team's entry into the French Division 3. She became secretary of the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation, managing the Luxembourg men's national ice hockey team at international competitions. She was later elected to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) council, oversaw the 2010 Winter Olympics Women's ice hockey tournament, and presided over the 2011 IIHF Women's World Championship. She was honored by the IIHF with the Paul Loicq Award in 2015 for her contributions to international ice hockey.
